awesome, I was wondering if there was something similar to rockbox but for creative :D

The playback is only gapless if the original source is Gapless, e.g. the CD.

if u just import mp3 files it wont play gapless, only if the CD is ripped directly to the MP3 player, then the playback will be gapless, as intended.

What do you mean ripped directly to the mp3 player? There should be no difference if you do it to the computer than transfer the files later or do it to the player. The ripping program will still create multiple files that need to be storred somewhere. The only difference will be the location the files get saved to, the files themselves dont differ. In any event you will still get "gapless" across different cd's, just it wont be as smooth a transition than 2 files that were made to flow into eachother and if the recording originally had a slight pause you will still get that. What you wont get is any gap between the files themselves (loading ect).

The files need to be in a format that supports gapless playback, something like .ogg.

Edit: and MP3 isnt a gapless format. The only way to achieve that would be to rip the cd as one large file. MP3 by its nature will have a playback gap, not long but its there.

Why should I support a product that sports the Microsoft 'Plays for Sure' nonsense instead of supporting Apple? Microsoft is the organization with a monopoly that doesn't really care about innovative products only making money even if it means taking other organizations ideas and calling them their own. Apple isn't a bad company.

And MS is? In many regards Apple is a worse company than MS, it has made many sketchy moves in the past (and thats including within the past 12 months). Taking fan sites to court for posting information that they were told by employees rings a bell as one example of such a thing. Apple may not be bad but I would call them angels either, nor are they as innovative as many make out.

Anyway if you dont wana use WMA then go for it. I and others would rather choose a player based on features and technical superiority (be that apple or creative is up to you), not whether they use a codec made by MS and/or Apple. If you dont like the codec fine, but if your reason for not liking it is because MS made it then I really wonder what thought process went into that.

Also what part of you believe Apple isnt a company that only cares about profit? The iPod isnt among the most expensive MP3 players out there out of the goodness of their hearts surely? Same applies to all their products that are usually substantually higher in price than competitors.

and no, I actually like iPods. I'm just curious about the wording of your post and the reasons not to use WMA but at the same time use apples codec.

even if it means taking other organizations ideas and calling them their own.

sounds like your describing apple there. With them taking the UI from the creative player etc.

Only kidding btw. But what do you think apple are out there to do? Make friends? Apple are out there to make money - exactly like MS. Nearly all companies have making money as their top priority, over anything else.

Personally, I prefer MS's playforsure devices because I prefer WMP over iTunes. I also like the support for subcription based music.

off topic - anyone know what's happening with the Creative Apple lawsuit. I know apple counter sued, but I havn't heard anything since.

I really dont think its just MS which takes ideas from other companies, Apple do it too. Innovative products? IMO the iPod lacks that alot, it is one of the least innovative product i have seen since the G3 model.

    • This is a none story - these low volume Chinese models will always get new experimental features first because Apple and Samsung can't produce them in huge volume to meet demand.
    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for Dark Scrolls, Empulse, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The final update of June for Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce NOW is now available, and it is touting support for six more games. The company is also drawing subscriber attention towards the summer sales kicking off across stores, so they can stock up on more cloud-supported titles. Of course, the Steam Summer Sale is the biggest promotion, which is kicking off later today. "Supported Steam games can be streamed across devices with GeForce NOW, making it easy to buy a game once, keep progress synced and pick up where the gameplay left off on PCs, Macs, handheld devices, phones, TVs and more," says the company. "In other words, the Steam Summer Sale brings the deals; GeForce NOW adds the flexibility." Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active as well. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, available June 22) SAND: Raiders of Sophie (New release on Steam, available June 22) Deer & Boy (New release on Steam, available June 23) EMPULSE (New release on Steam, available June 24) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) With the June expansions coming to an end, Nvidia should be announcing its July GeForce NOW plans next week. Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
