because my dvd player support Divx. it doesnt seem to play Xvid format

Thats weird, it plays DivX but not XviD? Maybe it's being encoded wrongly but they should be compatible.

Well then, just get Divx codecs and a encoder and encode the avi to Divx. A bunch of guides are here

But first try simply changing the fourcc to DX50.

I think the latest version of DivX to download contains a "to DivX converter".

You definately should try changing the fourcc.

If you are looking to re-encode, auto gordian knot is probably the easiest way to do that.

You can queus up several files to batch encode.
