Yes, "Advanced Heuristics" is in the real-time monitor now.

Actually NOD32 doesn't update every hour, but is on a "need-based" schedule (why some weekends don't have any updates). They won't update for malware they don't deem as outbreak worthy until they have enough or in conjunction with some more prevalent malware.

Actually it WILL look every hour, (if there are no updates then it will obviously do nothing) if your settings are on LAN/ fixed line! These setting are found under: Update-Setup-Advanced: There are 4 settings for various scenarios!

In all the latest virus comparisons...

among the FREE av's, Antivir has smoked Avast and AVG. Actually, AVG has finished horribly. Avast has not done too bad, but nonetheless, Antivir has done a lot better. It is also less resource intense as the others. It just works, plain and simple. Autoupdates and everything, it just works. I am not sure how anyone could like/say AVG or Avast is better. Just my rant.

Just try to download and install it on my system... it use too much memory... AVG Free is using only 7,200K, NOD32 is using around 9,100K... but this Antivir Free edition is using over 20,000K.

"It sucked" isn't very descriptive of the problems you had with it. You haven't justified your position. I have tried most antivirus programs and have found NOD32 to be pretty exceptional - performance is great, detection rates are great, security is great, updates are very frequent, heuristics are excellent, scan time is pretty amazing and the price is very reasonable. Kaspersky was also decent, though performance was lacking - I hear that has actually improved recently, so I'll be keeping my eye on it.

Spouting "it sucked" without a supporting arguement is just looking for a fight on these forums and you really should be careful in future. I also disagree that it is a "bandwagon" - it has been building a large fan base because of the excellence of the product, not from PR.

Ok, well I installed it on a Dell with a 1.8ghz P4, 384mb of ram, and a 40gb hdd. It took about 12 hours to scan the whole pc and it bogged it down to the point where it was unuseable. Even Norton Antivirus 2005 ran faster and detected about 3 viruses that NOD missed. I though that maybe NOD just didn't like that slow PC, so I tried it on my P4 2.8ghz 1gig ram and >200gb hdd and I still had slow scanning and a horrendous detection rate compared to my favorite, Trend Micro. And this was sometime in 2005 with the latest NOD updates. Maybe there is a more functional version now? All I know is that I'll never try it again. If it works for you, then that's great, I was just saying that my experience sucked.

I have been in the VX and Trojan scene for many years and found KAV to be the best if you do not mind a slow scanner or have a fast system. If you want a really good and fast scanner you would want NOD32. It was made in ASM and that is about is fast as you can get...

I've always been a fan of Norton AntiVirus since the days of Windows 95 but after I bumped into this thread, I did a little research and I became sceptical of Norton AntiVirus now. I uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2006 from my systems yesterday and installed NOD32, as most reviews that I'd came across have good review on it. Am still trying to adjust myself in NOD32 though. Question is - is NOD32 really that good?

Anyway, I'm tempted to try BitDefender 9 Standard too after reading this - http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com. What say you?

Nod32 user here, tried Kaspersky, didnt like thr hog of it, reminds me of norton for some reason, tried some free ones, didnt care for them, everything comes to play, but most part is the virus thing, but the gui has to look nice to..whats the point in bying software if your not happy with it, so nod32 is for me, its simple, good support and hasnt got me a virus in long time..with avg viruses got through alot..

Definately NOD32, looking at this ive had it almost a year and lincense need renewed, i think i'll do NOD32 again as well, delt with everything thrown at it!

Apart from a pesky file trying to download stuf, but i've sorted that
