Yours doesn't quite work in the way I'm suggesting... The I'm suggesting, a user would visit a page with a search box. They could then type in "Microsoft Office" (for example) and it would then suggest freeware alternatives based on that search

i have to chip in and say that SUPER is the video encoding tool i have been looking for. you put in the video file, decide what format you want to convert to and push the convert button and its done. No bitrates to know or anything like that, but the options are all there so that you can change them if need be. 4 clicks and i can convert from one format to any other. I love this program!
