Remove/hide "Web Folders" from My Computer

Recommended Posts

After I removed a few programs I didn't need anymore, I found that "Web Folders" suddenly made an appearance in My Computer.

I don't like it being there, so is there anyway to remove, or at least hide, Web Folders?

I just don't like an ugly 16-bit icon being amongst my XP/Vista icons.

You can disable the WebClient service

WebClient Also see PART 9 Assorted Features

You can also delete these files from C:\WINDOWS\system32:

davclnt.dll.....Web DAV Client DLL

webclnt.dll.....(Web DAV Service DLL). <---(Main Service File)

WebFldrs XP Also see PART 2 Disabled Services

WebClient service provides WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) integration in the Explorer shell. It makes it possible to use "web folders" and to browse the file systems of web servers.

To Uninstall WebFldrs XP

Start -> Run -> type in:

msiexec /x C:\Windows\System32\webfldrs.msi

Then delete "webfldrs.msi" from C:\WINDOWS\system32

I then uninstall WebDav Client Redirector in Hardware Device Manager under Non-Plug and Play Drivers.

And I delete this registry key from the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRxDAV
