Hey Guys,

I have DSL and my total speed is 1.2mbps. My question is when ever I am downloading anything, the highest speed I get is 155kb/sec. What the hell is going on. :crazy: :crazy:

If anybody knows of ways and tweaks for me to increase my DL Speed, Please share your wise wisdom with me. I wil be even happy if I can reach my DL speed at 500kb/sec. :laugh: :laugh:

So please if someday can tell me how I can increase mt DL speed, I would be really Thankful!

P.S. Fusion :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Thats about right if your dsl is 1.2mbit/s. Now if your connection is 1.2 mbytes/sec then your speed would be slow, but i have heard of DSL @ 1.2 mbytes/sec.

Actually i think what your have from your ISP is 1.5 Mbit/s which is standard DSL speeds. Which will be 156 kbytes/sec, which is exactly what you are getting.

I think you have it backwards 1.2mbits would be slow, 1.2 mbytes would be fast.

The ISP would rate at 1.5 megabytes per second.

a Byte = 8 bits.

No, he means if his connection was rated for 1.2MB/sec (which is 10mbit) then getting 155KB/sec would be slow :)

But yes, where did you get the 500KB/sec figure from? That's around 4.2mbit speeds.

Edit: Oh, I see, you were just saying you'd even be happy with 500KB/sec while still thinking you should be getting 1200KB/sec. Unfortunately, as everyone else has said, your speeds are spot on.

  • 5 weeks later...

Take whatever number the DSL companies advertise and divide by 8.

1.2Mbps = 1200Kbps = 150KBps

Or take the speed you want (500KBps) and multiple it by 8.

500KBps = 4000Kbps = 4Mbps

Thus, to get the speeds you want, you'll have to upgrade to a 4 Megabit per second DSL line.
