Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

Man o man, you gotta say.. for the nuetral viewer this was one heck of a game..

Both sides played dirty. Boulahrouz should've gotten a red card for the kick he gave Ronaldo.

And Heitinga should have given the ball back to Portugal.

Other than that I think most cards were fair (given the way the game was going).

Too bad the Dutch didn't win though.. Overall they had a lot more chances and I think they were the better team in the end.

You know, i think you are right.

The problem is with the FIFA's advices.

They want the referee to give yellows for everything.

Then when the referee needs to give a fair yellow for the players, he already have one...so the red must come.

First: I'm portuguese.

Second: the only think that will go down in history is this: PORTUGAL 1 - 0 HOLLAND

And nothing more... not the bad fair play of the dutch nor the bad game quality Portugal demonstrated this night.

I find it laughable that all the Brits, minus Martyn, are glad that two players were red-carded from Portugal. Do you guys think we have 11 starters and everyone else in the bench is rubbish?

To all England fans: BEWARE! Portugal might surprise you, if you think because we have two keys players who can't play against you, that this will be a walk in the park.

Man, it looks like I am in Portugal right now outside of my house :woot:

Pictures to come

Well, I'm the Algarve and it's just CRAZY!!! Brings back fond memories of '04.

That's true. I personally don't like it when players are carded for celebrating.

I recall a Liverpool match, can't remember the opponents, Everton maybe, when Steven Gerrard was booked for doing something stupid like kicking ball away after conceding a free kick and then a tackle from behind a minute later which got him sent off.

Not sure if that was the right example though..

damn how the hell am I gonna be able to get to sleep now.. I'm still really pumped up.

Netherlands got so many chances in the last 15 minutes it's still unbelievable they didn't score.

The ending moment of the match with Deco and Gio sitting next to each other talking and laughing is still the best I think.. True sportmanship.

Portugal v Netherlands - undoubtably the perfect example of all that's wrong in football - both teams and the officials should be ashamed of themselves. The World Cup is supposed to be the pinnacle of the sport, and I saw NOTHING sporting in either teams display tonight. The officials were no better - why didn't the referee take both team captains aside and tell them to stop diving and cheating?

Frankly this game should have been abandoned, all concerned are a disgrace to the sport.

    • I have disabled it, but the app is still taking space. I have a Mac and it is only possible to disable Ai on that, but I think that bit does get rid of the AI components after a while. What we are told is that we agree to all this when we use the devices as it is in the end user agreements, their software, they can do what they like. I doubt that any bill will happen in the U.S, the government there are in league with big tech firms. The E.U maybe, they seem to have some guts when it comes to tech companies. The U.K is not in the E.U, but some things still affect us. Our government is as gutless when it comes to tech companies as the U.s government.
