Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

That's true. I personally don't like it when players are carded for celebrating.

I recall a Liverpool match, can't remember the opponents, Everton maybe, when Steven Gerrard was booked for doing something stupid like kicking ball away after conceding a free kick and then a tackle from behind a minute later which got him sent off.

Not sure if that was the right example though..

I agree, the players should be able to go close to the fans to celebrate...this is what football is about, PASSION.

Let them celebrate, ffs.

They give yellows when the player hold the ball for 3 seconds after the foul (like Deco did), and the same yellow when a player almost rip the adversary's leg off (like against C. Ronaldo).

And this is not th referee's fault....its FIFA who set this rules.

Portugal v Netherlands - undoubtably the perfect example of all that's wrong in football - both teams and the officials should be ashamed of themselves. The World Cup is supposed to be the pinnacle of the sport, and I saw NOTHING sporting in either teams display tonight. The officials were no better - why didn't the referee take both team captains aside and tell them to stop diving and cheating?

Frankly this game should have been abandoned, all concerned are a disgrace to the sport.

I almost agree with you. Almost. Because you say this is a perfect example of what's wrong if football. I say this an excellent example of what the PASSION of football can be. Of giving it all out there. Of never letting no; "Give up" doesn't exist in the field.

Yes, there were too much cards... but it's the referer's fault that couldn't handle this passionate game like he should.

Man, Neowin has transformed from a tech talk forum to a football/soccer forum :woot:

Indeed. This game had people posting like crazy! More than 15 pages in a flash!!

Just look at the homepage...

"Supporting England" :shifty:

Neowin is never wrong :p

Let's hope it changes to "supporting Portugal" next Saturday!!! :woot: :woot:

im glad the dutch are out, it seams their main goal of the match was to get rid as many portugese players as they can.

oh come on man... just watch the game again..

i agree with you that the kick from boula to C. Ronaldo was way unfair and he should have gotten a red card right away.

But other than that foul, i can't recall any other moment where a dutch player deliberately tried to hurt a portugeuse.

Bah. Argentina will win the cup. :p

<prays>

They have been the most impressive so far and have the most depth. It's going to be them or Germany most likely. I can always pray for England, but they have a history of choking.

Germany doesnt want to miss the chance of winning the cup in their own country. But argentina will fight to death!

I'm sad Holland is out. Dirk Kuyt is useless. Every opportunity he got, Van Nistelrooy would have put away. Man, Cocu's shot was a cracker..shame it didn't go in though. Anyways, GO SOCCEROOS! If Australia believes in themselves, they can defeat Italy. They just need to play with a lot of heart like they did in their group matches.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers.
