Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

The game was played equally. They both did great, minus italys red card.

But that penalty was BULL.

The australian player slid for the ball, didnt get it and even TRIED to move his head out of the way for the italian player. Clearly it wasnt a penalty. That ref is going to get hung and linched if he ever steps foot in Australia.

Teach the Aussie defender for trying to scythe down the winger when he was trying to enter the penalty area.

Australia v Italy 0:0 - Ref : 1

We beat Italy, just couldn't beat the bribes. It's another example of the influence of money in the World Cup.

Italy, I hope you got your money's worth. One of the biggest frauds in World Cup history.

Iterestingly some of Italy's players are involved in the Italian league match fixing court case at the moment. Many of them already flagged for expusion, but that's ok, you can play in the world cup. Flippin' Cheats.

I think that you could not be more wrong here.

No, it was not a penalty, yes the player dived, yes the referee was wrong.

However, you cannot blame the players for what is happening in italian football at the moment, it is the clubs executives on trial, not the players.

I completely fail to see how money is linked to the result, unless you are accusing the ref of being corrupt?!?

THAT WAS UTTER BULL****, I WATCHED THE GAME AT THE GYM AND EVERYONE ****ED TOO WTF??? I HOPE THEY REVIEW THIS GAME, WAIT IS THERE SUCH THING!!?!?!?

I AM ****ED RIGHT NOW, SO LEAVE ME ALONE AND MY CAPS

PS: I hope Germany doesn't get this kind of bull****, or riots could break-out .

Italy played not very well but please consider the goal-actions of the match... dangerous actions are all for italians. The Materazzi's red card I think too much severe... Our best defensor is Nesta (injured), best midfield DeRossi (stupid!!!) is out, our best player is Totti (3 months seriously injured) and our best scorer is Toni, that seems to have lost his skills...

If you consider all these conditions and the fact that only 1 goal scored against Italy (matched by Zaccardo, own-goal....) I think that Italy's Cup is not negative.

Yes Bugs, but you didnt score during the entire game because the lack of quality in the final touch.....so in this case you deserve a stolen penalty to reward the rest of the game ?

Anyway, we are all mad not against italians but the stupid FIFA and those crap referees. Crap IF he didnt give the penalty on purpose !?!

And imo, this is not the last thievery in this world cup.

How short are some peoples memories? How about Cahill fouling in the area against Japan, he should've been off and Japan should've had a penalty.

Today the Australians had the best part of a half to beat them, and through poor play, not bringing on players 'til too late on and good defending by the Italians they didn't score. Penalty was harsh but defenders know not to go to ground like that, he was nowhere near the Italian player when he went to ground.

Yeah, I am not really concerned over who wins in this game, but I thought the referee was just going over-board in this one.

I forgot but do they usually review games if there is an objection?

yes crazy referees... I would like only to underline the problems into the Italy group such as injuries and bad phisic conditions of some too important players like Totti , probably our best player , and the fact that fantasy is impossible if you is less stronger than normal. But probably all european teams like England or Spain have to pay for all the matches that its players must play during a year. I think Pirlo (Milan) for example played something like 60 matches this year...I think is impossible to play very well a WC with these numbers...

Honestly, that was unfair for Aussies but wtf ej , i've watched every single match of this World Cup and what really ****es me of is, that the players seem to be so bluddy weak and fakin lame, they just trip over for no bluddy reason so they can get a free kick. Most of the Refs are bluddy useless, i though Aussies were playing very good at the second half but still unlucky.

i'm wondering, (I think) in the english leagues, clubs can only appeal against read cards if they were straight reds, and cannot if the red card was a result of 2 yellows.

Just wondering now is this the same in the world cup (and can you even appeal red cards in the world cup)

Just thinking because on teletext it said the portuguese manager (can't spell his name lol) thought deco still has a good chance of playing against england

I don't understand that penalty was given, and it was a really horrible way for the Aussies to exit the WC. I didn't watch the whole game, fell asleep during parts of them actually, but the parts I did see were when the Aussies were constantly attacking the Italian goal, between the 60-75 min. I thought that Italy severely underestimated Australia and they got off easy with a penalty.

What a bad two days, first the Dutch and now the Aussies are out, hope the Brazilians aren't next.

Refs ruin matches. The amount of games that have ended poorly because of bad decisions is unreal and this is meant to have some of the best referees involved, what a joke that is. Utter Bull, I don't even think Italy deserved a red card and that was no way a penalty so if you take that out the game it would have been 11 Vs 11. So the game for me was ruined. Shame, but fair play to Australia, shame Kewell wasn't playing, he'd of been useful.

as an italian supporter myself, i think the referee just screwed the game over, the red card shouldn't have existed, a yellow card maybe, but a red card, please

the aussies, i'm sorry but they deserved to win the game as much as the italians, even less I mean come on they are palying 11 vs 10 and still can't manage to injure the italian defense

this was a boring game for both sides, but I think that is just the way italians play and australia fell for it, when they were in numeric advantage they could have put another attacker earlier, they could have pushed more for the goal

as a narrator said here, I think they were scared of attacking and a posible counter atttack

anyway, the penalty sure it wasn't fair, but hey you have to give credit where credit is due, Grosso dived himself and got what he was looking, altough if you wath the replay you could see why the referee gave the penalty, the australian player made a movement with his hand that the referee could have interpreted as the foul.

anyway Forza Azzurri :D, I hope we can play against Germany or Argentina, that is going to be a hell of a match and and hell of a semi-final if Italy wins next match, some nice classics are coming :D

    • I sort of agree with you on that. I had a telescope - a real hefty thing, although only around 500CHF - that got me so fascinated about the stars and planets. I would stare for hours, amazed that I could see the craters of the moon or the rings of Saturn in "realtime" (quotations because, y'know, speed of light and whatnot). A friend of mine has a telescope like the one mentioned in the review, and the pictures are amazing to look at. But there is something missing for me. I may as well just go to NASA's website and look through their gallery.
    • As opposed to catching bad press because it's the engine's fault? You didn't really think this through did you? lol
    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.
    • I misread the title and thought Teams itself would be redesigned. Imagine having this one as a native WinUI app.
    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
