Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

Well if you think the match was fixed you should go and find recordings of the 2002 world cup.

Korea got a lot of decisions go their way for some strange reason.

If you wish to complain about racism and cheating in football then write to F.I.F.A. and E.U.F.A.

I could go on about how in 1986 a referee saw Maradonna hand ball the football over Peter Shiltons fist into an empty net and gave a goal.

The Sol Campbell header against Argentina which was given off side even though he was level.

The Sol Campbell header disallowed against Portugal in the 2004 european championships which by what I saw the goal keeper jumped into him.

We could be here all day calling refs cheats. The football players that faine injury and dive all over the place is what you should be complaining about.

it was offsides. check the FIFA rulebooks. it doesn't matter who kicked it. offsides is offsides.

Refer to the following web page(look at the images from FIFA rule in the following web page), FIFA says, even other team player touched the ball, if the player is offside position, it is offside.

Clearly, the referee knew the rules and was biased as he had Swiss relatives and lives in Europe.

What a game last night. Definately game of the tournament so far :ninja:

I think Sol Campbell actually jumped on top of John Terry. Keeper came in. Ball went in then he collided into Campbell.

Why does the England v Portugal game have to be on the same day, at the same time with my leavers ball. :(

fifa ****ed australia up the ass, they didnt want us there so they give us the toughest run possible. we have the toughest qualification campaign, ****ed in the ass by the ref in japan game with nakamura goal when should have been a free kick, ****ed in the ass by the refs at the brazil game (brazil would have won anyway but the refs didnt make it any easier for us) and 3 ****ing clear ****ing penalties in the ****ing croatia match turned down and a disallowed goal at the end (which didnt really matter since we were through anyway) and then diving ****s "azzuri" fags cheat to win a game, they were getting dominated and knew the only way to win was by cheating. shame on the ref and shame on grosso, hopefully ukraine injure totti and grosso for being smartasses (prefferably broken legs) and then italy get thrashed by argentina in the semis and get thrashed by brasil for third place!!! im totally ****ed off, i now know what england fans felt with maradona hand of god, im totally disgusted to have italian heritage right now, my family says take that aussies, i say get ****ed u wog diving ****s, i hate my family and all italians now, go socceroos

I don't know about you, but I always believed that battling in spite of hardship and adversity defined the Australian spirit - not complaining about how difficult things were. I've yet to see the match (had exams) but I'm proud of the Socceroos for what they've achieved. I remember when the groups for Germany '06 were announced; nobody thought we had a chance of getting out of the group stages against the best team in the world, the Asian champions and a European team with a rich footballing history. Yet we did, and in the process, scored our first ever World Cup finals goal and proved that despite having virtually no experience in such an environment, we were capable of competing against the world's best footballing teams on the world stage. It's unfortunate to have exited the World Cup in the manner that we did, but looking beyond the poor refereeing in the World Cup and the pathetic theatrics of football players and focusing on the experience this World Cup has given the nation, we should simply be proud of our national team, and what they've achieved.

The referee might have been an idiot, but I don't see any justification of calling his misconduct a result of racial discrimination. World Cup this year saw lots and lots of stupid decisions made by referees (just ask Aussies), and Korean team isn't the only victim(?) here. Let's just let it go.

All the world against Brasil today, i see.

Always like that, ppl are always with the weakest link.

Anyway, i hope it will be a good game.

Go Brasil !!!!!!!

For sure!

For me, is another training session.

Ghana cant do nothing against us.

FOR?A BRASIL!

i know what you are saying, but it doesnt change the fact that we have been cheated out time and time again

I used to like Brazil a lot more before I started reading threads on here. Someone said right when this thread started that people love Brazil because they play so well and aren't arrogant about it which was so true, but a lot of posts I've seen online about Brazil by Brazillians (especially that one guy on here who was banned before the WC started) have been very arrogant and left me with a kind of sour taste in my mouth to be honest, it's a shame.

As for this match, Ghana have been the better team and Adriano was offside twice in that second goal and they were lucky that Ghanas header wasa saved by Dida's leg lol, I hope Ghana get a goal or two in the second half, they deserve it without a doubt.

The same one that said that Argentina beat England 10 minutes before the game ended. Then England score 2 to win 3-2?

    • Bluesky COO warns social media regulations could destroy competition from small startups by Paul Hill Fears that increasing government control of social media risks regulatory capture by the biggest social media firms were raised again recently. Bluesky’s chief operating officer said in an interview that social media bans for children and tighter regulations for social media firms risk creating a world where there are only a few social media platforms run by companies with the deepest pockets. Regulations on social media firms have been very lax since they appeared for mainstream users in the 2000’s. This gave Meta, Snapchat, and Google time to build up their user bases and get entrenched, with Meta being the most successful. Now that Meta has succeeded, it has been attempting regulatory capture. By pushing for more regulations of social media, Meta hopes to make it more difficult for rivals to challenge it. For its part, it doesn’t need to worry about the cost of regulation because it has a lot of money to spend, whereas startups do not. Speaking to CNBC, Rose Wang, Bluesky’s chief operating officer, said: “I support the protection and the safety of youth, the question that we have then is at what cost, because essentially what I’m scared of is in the long term, we’re headed to a world where there’s about three to five platforms, and extreme heavy regulation of those platforms, and basically the whole compliance teams of these platforms are 10 times the size of our entire team. So, basically, we’re living in a world where it’s almost impossible for smaller entrants to come in and build healthier spaces. These platforms have led to a place where the bottom line is the thing that drives what they do... so I understand why governments have to step in and regulate, because the platforms have done nothing right.” She said that while she is not against regulation, there needs to be more channels between the small to mid-sized players and regulators to help protect them. She says that big tech players, on the other hand, “who we know are circumventing regulation,” need to be regulated. Essentially, the Bluesky position is one of nuance, rather than absolutes. While Bluesky’s proposal may preserve competition in the social media space, it still doesn’t address the massive privacy implications these age verification measures introduce, such as handing over sensitive identity documents to access age-gated content.
