Me too! Oh man, I couldn't stop cheering after that goal. The look on his face after securing that win. He truly deserved this win. Top class and brilliant--the finishing he put in that was perfect. (Y)

:D this was the only goal in 2006 WC that i got off the couch and cheered like a maniac. And im not even rooting for France, rooting for Brazil :p

qdave, yes he could...but he didnt and you know why ?

yeah i know..better be safe then sorry :D (reminds me of that us snowboarding women who did the trick and lost her first place)

anyway french win come to me as a big surprise. i thought spain will defeat them easily...you just can never be sure of how things will tur out in football!

For me the next round will be.

Argentina x Italy

Brazil x Portugal

Final

Argentina x Brazil

germany vs italy

brazil vs england

germany vs england? ok lets be more realistic..germany vs brazil! you all will mark my words :p

The general consensus here in Australia was that it didnt matter if we won or not, our team did very well on the world stage and it's been a HUGE boost for soccer/football in the country . I really wanted a clean match without diving or referee influence (unlike our other games) and we nearly had that until the 93rd minute. It's really dissapointing and annoying that we are kicked out due to a questionable penalty, and not because the other team played better (which imo, they didn't).

Kudos to both teams, they played well. It's a shame to see games decided this way.

Might be the consensus in Brisbane, but it definitely wasn’t the consensus here in Melbourne. We wanted the boys to win. It’s just really disappointing that we lost in those circumstances. I would have rather lost 5-0 then to have the ref make a call like that with only minutes to go.

But I do agree that Australia making the round 16 is going to make a huge difference to the sport here.

Just wanted to add one more thing. I’ve followed Australia in many sporting events, and I’m a very proud Australian. But for someone reason during this World Cup I’ve never been more proud to be an Aussie. Maybe because we weren’t expected to win a game or it could be because nearly everyone in Australia got behind the team even if they followed soccer or not I’m not really sure, but I was just really proud of the Soccerroos.

I beg to differ. If Germany plays like they did against Sweden for the most part, Argentina will be in trouble.

yeah if germany plays well they can definately beat those argentinians. especially if they will play as bad as with mexico :D

I was dissapointed in Thierry Henry last night. Henry is one of my favourite players, one of the best in the world and I always admired his personality and passion for the game.

Last night he let me down when he went down clutching his face when he clearly was hit in the chest, it was a foul when he was hit in the chest but Henry was looking to get Puyol sent off. I understand he wants to win but there is still no need to cheat, which was what he did, he cheated by attempting to con the referee.

Even that dude in the Ghana game attempted to win a penalty yesterday by diving. He was not even touched in the slightest, and luckily the referee saw it clearly and because he had already been booked he got sent off for it.

The same can be said for Steven Gerrard when he dived for a penalty in the friendly game against Jamaica. Cheating has no place in football and I really despise some of the players when they do cheat.

i agree cheating has no place in the game of football and Henry has made me think a lot differentally of him now, and i hope no more discusting behaviour happens in the world cup

Agree, why the need to cheat i mean why play football.

Now you know how i felt seeing Rivaldo faking and injury in 2002 against Turkey.
