Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

I must be the only one who actually thought Crouch worked very hard for the team. He showed great foot work and technique when he first come on the pitch. Does anyone realise how hard it can be to play up front on your own? I think he did just as good, if not better than Rooney.

I bet no one agree's with me though :/

Yeh i noticed he had no support most of the time too

Rooney, what a disgrace! He hasnt scored ONCE in the world cup! Tripping over that ball? Holding another players LEG? Kicking him in the nuts?! Man he does NOT deserve to get paid that much and kick him off the team!

Man of the match I had to say was Lennon! Amazing kid only 19 and he went through the toughest players not only that he set it up PERFECTLY for rooney and guess what! Rooney swings, and MISSES! Amazing potential.

Beckham = overhyped hes old now way too arrogant for his own good.

Lampard, even though he NEVER gets it in he tries his hardest. Hardest working player on the team!

But props to Ricardo amazing saves! Top goal keeper.

Good match overall. It was 100% Ricardo in the end that won it for Portugal.

Ah well least us English play real football and don't dive and shirt tug. And the attitude of the moderator in this thread is disgusting.

It's a good way to defend the team that just lost.

I would put it in a way that England played well, they defended themselves for over an hour with man down and then they lost. Portugal thus was better.

yeah.. he didnt have much help in the front. he tried hard on doing what he was supposed to do (winning the air play), i guess its unfair to say he didnt do s**t

I agree with you, he did work extremely hard for us, it is very difficult playing up-front by yourself, especially against good teams.

Post of the day (Y)

The only player I can give my props to is Lennon. He went into the game and gave it his all until he was substituted. He did more in 10 minutes then Beckham in 50.

same stuff from the english fans every time, first we bombarded with all the hype then when they lose as always we get the whining.

What were you expecting? What would have happened if it was the other way round?

It doesn't matter what team it is, whining is natural in these circumstances if 'your' team loses.

(Y) Euro 2004 was the same thing: first the hype "England is amazing best and will kill everybody" and after a couple of bad-losers crying and talking about cheating and racism

:(, ironically I thought England played best when they were down to 10 and without Beckham and Rooney. They really lacked leadership, passion and flair throughout this tournament.

Don't be mistaken, they did play better with those 10 men.

I also believe Crouch did well. Congratulations to England for holding out to penalties. And congratulations to Ricardo for the penalty saves.

I would congratulate the Portugese team , but a lot of them don't deserve to be playing football. They fall over when they hear a fart in the crowd.

And for those saying that England were the better team, isn't the idea of football to score goals? They better team is the one that scores the most goals. No-one scored therefore means the teams were equal.

The officiating was decent but some bad calls. Kind of like Ronaldo calling Pele a two-bob opportunist and Michel Platini jealous. He may be great, but only when he is on the field and his mouth not moving. Anyhow, I would personally like to wish Lethal the worst of luck as your the most biased mod I have seen on this website.

Remember you won on penalty kicks so be happy, but not delusional.

I do. Hargreaves was the man , Lennon was good too.

he seemed rather off tune this time. maybe because that poor lad was all alone in the enemy teritory :p and he couldnt handle ball.

nobody is as good as the english fans in this department. How many world cups have the country won? Lots of big talk without any real success.

England fans are true and devoting supporters. There is nothing wrong with that.

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.
    • The AI data centers need it more than us so...let them gobble it all up at that price!
    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
