Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

fifa are investigating rooneys actions.... on the other hand they said they couldn't do anything about Figo's headbutt because he'd already been punished on the pitch with a yellow. :rolleyes:

I'm really losing respect for FIFA and the way they have conducted the world cup, so many inconsistencies and pathetic refereeing decisions, dishonest players... the whole organization itself is very corrupt and it's just ruining what should be the best sporting event in the world.

You americans are so funny. I mean lets take alook at your team

* 1930 - Semi-finals

* 1934 - Round 1

* 1938 - Withdrew

* 1950 - Round 1

* 1954 to 1986 - Did not qualify

* 1990 - Round 1

* 1994 - Round 2

* 1998 - Round 1

Plus you were BOTTOM in your group so don't go around saying how English football team is crap when your's is WORST. You lost to Ghana LMAO. NOW YOU GO HOME.

At this stage, for us English fans, does it really matter.

We lost, simple as.

Any football fan worth their salt knows that the US team is overrated by FIFA, as are Mexico etc, etc.

Some teams and countries go to the world cup with the genuine belief that they can win the tournament, some go for the experience and some go with the hope that they can do well. We all know that the team we sent had the ability, however it was not used in the way that it should have been and therefore we are out. Deep down, most US fans will know that their team is not yet good enough to win the world cup, the rest is bravado as shown by every countries fans across the world, englands included.

No amount of calling people cheaters (c.ronaldo excluded, he should be banned forever), divers or highlighting the failures of other teams is going to change the fact that England are not going to win Germany 2006. Lets look forward to 2008 Euro's and South Africa where we WILL cane the oppositions backside.

Now that the game is over, and there are some major shake ups going down, hopefully this means we can win in 2010 !!!!!!!!!!!

:(

Well Sven has been saying since he took charge that we would win the 2006 World Cup as that is when our players would peak.

Terrible World Cup for England though when you look back on it. I think we did better in the 2002 World Cup in terms of performance.

You're right, we do know Rooney has a temper, and so does his club team-mate Ronaldo, and by some of his actions on the field yesterday, he was trying to use it against him.

I'm not saying Rooney deserved to get away with nothing, but a red card was only produced AFTER Ronaldo stuck his nose in. He knew Rooney would react.

The ref just stood there indicating a free kick, until Ronaldo showed up.

You say no-one has said how winking is cheating, the act of winking is not cheating, but the reason for winking must be examined, why did he wink? did he fancy one of his team-mates on the bench? or was it for another reason altogether, "Job done boss"!

You've also failed to explain how virtually headbutting Rooney before the second half started isn't cheating, yet another dig at him to provoke a reaction.

This is my opinion, you may call it whinging, I don't really care!

Pete

PS Is it me, or does Scolari look like George Galloway?

ROFL

I just heard on the news that the portuguese fans (greatly outnumbered) were stoned in Germany by english fans. Oh, and the portuguese had CHILDREN with them!!

That just proves that the english don't know how to loose and still have to learn how to accept defeat.

If I had any respect for your team and fans, I just lost it right here.

am i the only one who thinks that portugals ronaldo looks and acts kinda gay? :laugh:

Really?

Look what he's been banging:

You can't win when everyone here is being so unreasonable.

Every time an England fan makes a point a Portugal fan just says it's because they are a sore loser. To be honest some England fans are making excuses and some Portugal fans don't want to admit they have been cheating in the tournament and have been lucky....I probably wouldn't either if I were in thier position. Rooney stamped, Figo headbutted, Ronaldo cried when the wind blew etc etc. In my opinion Portugal don't deserve to win and they wont anyway so it's not a problem.

The game is over, lets enjoy the rest of the World Cup while it lasts.

Ok, let me get a few points across here. We are debating Portugal and England, I don't know what thread you have been reading. If you go back 50 pages, then your post would've been relevant. What the hell does the US performance have to do with Portugal and England? :huh:

The US lost to Ghana and Ghana beat the Czech Republic. Does that mean the Czech's are a bad team? :rolleyes:

You are talking about the same Ghana team that were U-17 champs over 7 years ago and the same Ghana team that gave Brazil a good run for their money. I suggest you look into the games more and not the stats.

Bottom line, we're in the semi's and we sent you packing for the second major tournament in a row :whistle:

Only on penalties though, England just suck at penalties :p!

Credit must be given to Ricardo, a great goalkeeper (Y)

England is 1-6 all-time in penalty kicks :pinch:

Side note: Tell the English team from now on that penalty kicks = no-no :p

I must agree, Ricardo is the one that knocked England out of the tournament. England kicked shot marvelous balls and he saved 3 of 4, not to mention he partially saved Hargreaves' shot when he scored.

England have always had a reputation in the UK for being abysmal on penalties. If a game goes to spot kicks, we know we are going to lose.

England took some good penalties. In training Owen Hargreaves is supposedly our best penalty taker, and Gerrard scores 95% of his penalties apparently! Ricardo was amazing though, it really took the confidence out of the England players. The only keeper I know who is better at saving penalties than Ricardo, is Pepe Reina.

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
