Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

It's too bad Portugal had to win it in a penalty shoot out. I hate penalty shoot outs, they should just have more added time. My respect for Christiano Ronaldo just plumetted. I'm not surprised Brazil lost though, they had it coming for them ever since they won the 2002 cup (=no motivation). Too bad Ukraine lost by so much and I still wish Argentina had won it, they played much better than Germany did.

Unfortunately Italy will lose to Germany, but it would have been nice for Portugal and Italy to play for the cup (both haven't won it ever, would be a great game). However, both semi games are going to be really nice

@L3thal, didn't know that - good for him!

but it would have been nice for Portugal and Italy to play for the cup (both haven't won it ever, would be a great game).

:pinch:

Italy won the cup 3 times already. ;)

So portugal winning would be nice .

although I hate england, I feel really sorry for rooney. as far as im concerned he didnt stamp on carvalho's balls on purpose, he was just trying to balance himself. and anyway the ref should have blown for a foul long before that, carvalho was tugging at rooney's shirt... and the shove on ronaldo was soo soft...

and ronaldo...I hated him before, I hate him even more now. trying to get a teammate sent off, headbutting, diving, fuelling roon's tempers even before the game started, plus he's all tricks and no end result. he's the donkey of the tournament.

The feelings I got after I heard the results (No I couldn't watch the match complete, I only saw the first 2 halves): gutted, distraught and close to tears (though 2 did fall off my eyes :(). But still I'm proud. The players played their hearts out, and hats off to Owen Hargreaves. Luck was not with the team, and that's the only reason I see to explain the defeat. Rooney's Red Card might be deserving, but that's quite obvious reaction from a 20 year old. He was frustrated, and it might not have been a deliberate stamp on Carvalho, but certainly he was frustrated and angry. Alone doing the forward duties, without any effective passes will make any forward loose his temperament, more so at a World Cup Quarter Final. Owen Hargreaves has a new fan in me. He played the complete 120 minutes with heart, energy, courage. He alone spearheaded the attack, and when Lennon came along, 10-men England were looking to notch the game in their hands. But fate had something else in it, it seemed. Again, loosing a quarter final against Portugal, again by Penalty Shootout. Some simple missed chances made all the difference. England might have played slow in the first half, but they certainly played their heart out. They all did their best and the defeat has been devastating. Farewell Sven. Thanks for your services. Good Luck to Steve McLaren. Good Luck England, for the World Cup qualifiers and the Euro Cup.

England played their best football of the tournament with only 10 men, am i the only one who saw something wrong there? Hargreaves played a really good game as well, i think he may have finally proved to everyone (myself included) that he belongs in the England squad.

I think Christano Ronaldo had a disgraseful game, his attitude was apalling and the way he was screaming at the ref to get Rooney sent off shouldn't be allowed. I wonder what the first Man U training session is going to be like?

but it would have been nice for Portugal and Italy to play for the cup (both haven't won it ever, would be a great game).

What???

Italy won the cup 3 times, just like Germany did. Only Brazil won more cups (5).

About the poll... the name of the Italian player is "Gilardino" not "Gilardinho".

And in March 2006, Italy won against Germany 4-1 ( http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060301/7/6720.html ). Tomorrow Germany will be destroyed.

;)

Oh my God, was it a weekend!

Well, England is out, which is a shame - I wanted them to go further at least. Brazil is out, which is freakin' awesome - up your nose all you who were saying Brazil would win it again (the likes of Krpano and Romario Brazil), you might as well go back and watch Europe duking it out for the World dominance  Although I must admit, I hated to see Argentina go, they played brilliant, way better than any other American team, they deserved to be closer to the final at least.

Now, it is funny seeing how everyone gets ****ed of at England because they are out. Yes, Ricardo produced a brilliant game, but that was all Portugal ever produced in that game, so stop coming up with some immaturely photoshopped pro-portugal etc. pictures. After all, the only manly football I've see in this tournament was by Germany, Argentina, England and somewhat France. The rest of the teams should play in womens league for real, they ain't got place in modern football with dancing and diving around like Italy, Portugal and the like.

I am not English by birth, but I live in England and support this country like mad. And to all of you England haters, despite whatever sorry comments you are going to give, know that these colours don't run!!!!!!!!!

Thank God for Premiership football!

P.S. L3thal, go suck!

Ronaldo does not deserve to play in the world cup semi finals whet he did with roony was a discrase. he said that he only said to the refree that it was a foul. well the reff had allready blown for a fowl so y say it he was obviuosle tryig to get rooney sent off and that wink at the end is just a joke

Listen to what the commentators say about that prick. I totally agree with Shearer - he's got no place in English football, he needs to play for ###### leagues like his home one.

###### leagues? Hmm, weird... how many portuguese players are now playing in England on major teams? How many coachs? Jos? Mourinho (considered the best coach in the world), rings a bell to you? Carlos Queiroz (Alex Ferguson's Assistant)? They are so many that I can't possibly remember them all.

Man, you just love our "pussies", don't ya? Muahahahahaha:DD

You blame Ronaldo, but Rooney was the one who so "accidentally" stepped on ricardo carvalho's nuts! What would Ronaldo do? What would you like him to do? If it was the other way around, what else would the English players do? Of course all of the English players would obviously protest as ours did.

You're always making excuses. Everybody is against you, ALL the referees, FIFA... lolol. You're so funny, really!!:DD

That's probably because you suckers come here like it's a honeypot full of cash, why don't your 'cool' players play for your lame league then? And I hope Rooney did a very good job on stepping on Carvalho - less scum to be bred in the future : get over it girls

But your teams let them play because they want good players. Whats up with that?

- get over it

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with ad blockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Samsung Browser'. It has very little bloat and is a nice-looking web browser with an inbuilt 'Ad blocker'. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. This browser can also install Chrome extensions. I have a system wide Ad blocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the web browser, but over the whole system. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt ad blocker because of that.
