Indeed, its sad :|

I'm English, and I aint sore about losing (one s btw).

The english played ****e, Sven isn't even english, so he doesn't give a ****e whether we won or lost.

The only reason you won, is because of your goalkeeper, because the rest of your team is just as ****e as the england team. Two of your players missed the fecking goal. But that doesn't matter anyway, because we got someone called Roblinson in goal, and the feck is he anyway? Never heard of him.

Fact of the matter is the England team need a FECKIN English manager, and also get rid of these ponced up 'footballers' (beckham, Lampard etc) who are just in it for the image, money, and promoting their brands.

English football needs a kick up the arse, and the only way of doing that is to stop paying the players the ludicrous amounts of money that they receive, and instead, plough it into the younger generation, via schools and sports clubs.

There is WAY too much money in Football, and that's why I don't follow the sport (except on English matches).

Rant over.

And no, I aint sore they lost..yes, I'm gutted, but hey.

That's probably because you suckers come here like it's a honeypot full of cash, why don't your 'cool' players play for your lame league then? And I hope Rooney did a very good job on stepping on Carvalho - less scum to be bred in the future  get over it girls

Erm... LOL. They go to England because YOUR teams come here and offer them more money, of course, DUH!! And if the english teams come here, it means that they are interested in our players, in our "###### league". It's not our players who ask to go there. Like there are english players also here, in Portugal. And in other countries as well. Welcome to the world of the soccer market!

<sarcasm>*man, you're smart!! lol*</sarcasm>

Lets be realistic here for the next two minutes. Portuguese players do not flock to international leagues because they want to. They all play in their local league and when they do, Portuguese teams own English teams and everyone else, e.g Porto; winners of the Champions League and UEFA Cup in back-to-back years. You know what happened when that occurred? Every "big" team from England and Spain came over and bought everyone from Porto (Deco, Ricardo Carvalho, Costinha, Nuno Valente, Maniche) and did I mention that Chelsea was willing to go bankrupt to acquire the best coach in the world, Mourinho?

You are quick to bash Portugal and their players, but have you ever realized that Portugal produces better players than England per capita? Take a look at Portugal's size and take a look at England's and then tell me who produces better players per capita

P.S. Portugal is the smallest country to be in the World Cup Semi's ever since...Portugal themselves made it in 1966. The next smallest was Croatia when they finished third in 98 and they are much larger than Portugal.

Well, I haven't seen anyone else say it (I haven't looked back too far though) so WAY TO GO FRANCE!!!!

Everyone is talking about the extremely boring England v. Portugal match. Besides the red card, NOTHING HAPPENED the entire game. Both teams looked like they were playing Pong.

The Brazil v. France match was very exciting though. Both teams just went at it, contantly attacking and countering. It was what a high-stakes game should look like. What a match!

Congrats France - when we win, the 16 of us on Neowin who voted for you can shove it in everyone else's face!

YOU "bad" losers destroyed this thread...

Its a shame we dont see any Mod around to start giving some warnings.

YOU england fans with all this crying makes you looks like damn kids.

Let you go, you are out (just like us).

And show some respect for others.

Btw, wicker_man .

Be a man and accept the defeat, just like i did.

And dont put me in the same wagon as romario, he never demosntrated respect for others... thats why he was banned once already.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that. Nice trivia! Keep'em coming! :D

I do agree with aubaine. France got no respect coming into this World Cup and expected them to not even pass the first round. They are definitely one of the stories in this cup.

Krpano, you have the mentality and sportsmanship everyone should follow. Your team loses and you accept the defeat and wish the best luck to the remaining teams. Its unfortunate others will make up excuses for their losses and talk about other teams because the other team beat them.

actually 1 hit the bar, and 2 others hit the goalkeeper almost straight. still 2 saves :)

Did it?

Too many Penalty shoot-outs to remember :p

Thanks for the correction ;)

In regards to the Rooney red card tho, even if Ronaldo did wink at him, does that suddenly make it acceptable to push him? I mean, grow up. If someone is annoying you, ignore them.

I realize it is a high stress and high tension match, but look at players like Ronaldihno - he's ALWAYS smiling. You know, like he's enjoying what he's doing. And he takes a loss with dignity. Why can't other players do the same?

Krpano, you're the man. The english fans should learn from you.

It was a damn shame Brazil lost, I wanted to see a Portugal-Brazil in the semi's. Altough I'm forced to say that Portugal has a greater chance of winning against France than against Brazil.

English 'hooligan' here.

From ANY point of views what Ronaldo did after Rooney had stamped on Carvalhos bollocks is ashaming. The referee had already made his decision (By giving the free kick in Portugals favour). Does anyone find running up to the referee from across the pitch screaming in his face to give a booking is fair play (Let alone from a club teammate)? Only after Ronaldo had come running in persuading the referee to give a booking, which obviously aggrivated Rooney (But if the ref gave the red for that push... Hmm).

<snipped>

Btw. France ftw against Germany in the final :p

Edited by L3thal

lol look @ the poll

Who will win the 2006 World Cup?

Argentina [ 36 ] [6.55%]

Netherlands [ 26 ] [4.73%]

Spain [ 10 ] [1.82%]

Portugal [ 39 ] [7.09%]

Italy [ 27 ] [4.91%]

Brazil [ 155 ] [28.18%]

France [ 16 ] [2.91%]

Other [ 30 ] [5.45

only germany is the only 1 left and 'high' rated..

Nice quote Miguel - bring back Firefly!

Don't discount France though. They play half as well as they did on Saturday and Portugal plays half as badly as they did on Saturday, Portugal is gonna have a heck of a time.

Oh, I'm not! You're right, we kinda sucked against England (they had a very closed defense that prevented us from reaching the net and we even missed two penalties), but Ricardo managed to win it for us.

And France has been gradually becoming stronger and stronger. But I think their football "fits" more in ours, so if both teams play at their level, I foresee a very evenly match. Could go either way.

No matter the score, I'm already happy for reaching this far! The portuguese team has to be commended by the effort that they've shown all through the world cup.

And I think the portuguese people have been up to the task of retributing that effort. I only wish the users of this forum could see the partying that has gone through Portugal these past days... it's just crazy.

And I wish I could be in France right now to party with my m8s.

Best of luck to Portugal tho - I think your assessment is dead on. I think it's going to be an exciting match.

I'd love to see Henry knock Ricardo into the goal with the ball tho. :)

3 questions for C. Ronaldo...

1. Why did you headbutt Rooney before the match had even started?

2. Why did you rush up to the ref shouting for a free kick when it was perfectly obvious to everyone else in the stadium that a free kick had already been given?

3. Why did you slyly wink to your bench after Rooney was sent off?

To the Portuguese supporters...

1. If Portugal were the better team, why couldn't they beat 10 men within the 60 minutes?

2. How come 2 of the Portuguese players couldn't even hit the target from the penalty spot?

All of the penalty shots from the English players were at least on target, they were just crap shots and way too close the the keeper.

I'm not sore at losing, I'm just fed up with the way that some teams play the game, it's an utter disgrace when players go to ground so easily or rush up to the ref trying to influence his decision. FIFA need to clamp down on this as soon as possible. Very soon some of these players will be nominated for Oscars!

Pete

Well, to all of you who attack Ronaldo and say Rooney and him can't stand each other, here's some news for you

I think this will also answer most of your questions, Pete.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo said on Monday there was no animosity between him and Wayne Rooney despite the furore over the winger's actions when the England forward was red carded in their World Cup quarter-final.

'There is no problem at all between me and Rooney,' Ronaldo told the website of the Gestifute agency, which represents him. 'At the end of the game, we exchanged a series of text messages just as we had on the day before.

'This reinforces that I have a fine relationship with Rooney. Between the two of us, everything is clear,' added Ronaldo who plays with Rooney at Manchester United.

In the second half of Saturday's match with England, Ronaldo rushed 40 metres to the referee, apparently to demand a card for Rooney who had battled his way through two players and trod on Ricardo Carvalho's groin as he tried to disentangle himself.

Rooney was sent off by Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo and Ronaldo was captured by TV cameras winking at his bench as the England forward walked off the pitch.

'I complained to the referee about the foul but I didn't ask for a red card,' the Portugal winger said after the match.

'How is it possible that I would help to get him sent off? I am not the referee with the power to send off anyone I want, nor do I have the ability to convince him to show cards,' he added on Monday.

'The referee produced the red card because he thought that he had to, and my participation in that was absolutely zero.'

Ronaldo had also feigned a head-butt towards Rooney seconds before the match kicked off as he was walking past his club mate to take up his position on the left wing.

British media reported on Monday that the England forward was furious with Ronaldo and attempted to charge into Portugal's dressing room to confront the winger after the match.

But Ronaldo said Rooney had told him to ignore the English press saying 'they only want to stir things up'.

'Statements have appeared as if they were from him, saying that he didn't want to play with me in Manchester,' said Ronaldo. 'That's not what he wants. Of course he wants to (play with me). This is absolutely false, he said so himself...'

'In fact, he didn't just send me congratulations for going forward in the World Cup, he also told me we have a great team, and if we carry on as we have, we will get a long way. He wasn't angry with me, or about anything that happened.'

Ronaldo, who faced England after recovering from a thigh injury inflicted by a high tackle in the second-round match with Netherlands, is still having ice treatment on the leg but says he will be ready for Wednesday's semi-final in Munich.

Wow...the British media took this out of proportion with lies. What's new?

Pete

1 - Because you defended very well. Congratulations.

2 - Temporary bad luck.

I have to check all your penalties again, I don't believe all your shots were too close to the keeper.

I'm not Christiano Ronaldo or even privy to his mind, but this is my interpretation of the events...

  • Rooney got tangle up and stood on the groin of Carvalho (accident or not, I don't know)
  • The Referee gave a free kick
  • Ronaldo runs 40 yards to complain about the foul even tho the ref had given a free kick
  • Rooney (the muppet) pushes Ronaldo
  • Ref then pulls Rooney aside and sends him off
  • Ronaldo turns to team mates and winks

It is my opinion that Ronaldo deliberately put himself in that position to get a reaction from Rooney, he did so and contributed to Rooney getting sent off. The wink clearly shows that that was his intention. That is cheating in my book.

You can see from the video clips that the ref wan't going to give more than a free kick until Rooney pushed Ronaldo.

Ronaldo must have excellent eyesight to see that foul from 40 yards away!!!

The quote you gave there, L3thal, is all one-sided. We shall know the truth about their relationship when the new premiership season starts next month.

Pete

Only the English media are saying Ronaldo is to blame for England losing. Its total crap. England lost because they played bad tactics, and when it mattered they couldn't get the ball in the goal. Ronaldo is an easy scape goat for the media. He's still a complete git purely because he is a persistent diver, but hes not to blame.

Rooney didn't deserve to be sent off for the foul or the push. The fact that he recieved a red card and is being investigated clearly shows the double standards Fifa are employing when compared to Figo headbutting another player.

That said, England played better football in the 120 minutes than Portugal, regardless of what anyone says. They had better chances with 10 men and a much stronger defence and Portugal never looked like scoring. And for that they probably deserved to scrape through to the semi's, but it wasn't to be.

The Portugeuse fans can say the English are sore losers all they want, but in the end they've never experienced the feeling of being robbed on penalties time after time. The only real taste of loss the Portugeuse have is being whooped by Greece in Euro 2004 and they have no major achievements to show as a national side either.

Its cheating that Rooney pushed Ronaldo? It was Rooney's decesion to push, he could have just let it go and play on. Im sorry but if your talking mess to me and i lay you out, im in trouble and "well he was saying {this and that} about me so i had to do it" is a poor excuse and i doubt the officer would let me go.

I had a feeling that the media and fans would blow up the story and it would get out of control, thanks L3thal for the post.

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
