Hi there,

I have a windows 2003 Server which is a PDC .I want to setup another server which will act as the BDC (backup domain controller) and there will be replication between the PDC and the BDC.I have already setup the other machine and it's a member of the pdc. Can you please tell me how to setup this machine as the BDC and which parameters should I configure so that replication works perfectly between the two.

The BDC has also windows 2003 server as operating system

Thanks

There is NO such thing as a BDC in Active Directory.. There are roles that DCs run.. One of them is the PDC emulator..

Yes if you only have 1 DC, and it has all the FSMO roles -- then yes could I guess look at it as the PDC.. but not really ;) AD is designed to be a multi master type setup.. The different roles can and really should be housed on different DCs once you grow to a specific size, etc..

Here this might help

What are the FSMO Roles in Active Directory?

Know the difference between Active Directory and Windows NT 4 domains

As BudMan mentioned, there is no such thing as a backup DC in ws2k3, you do however have joint primary controllers. Its a while since I last setup a DC, but I believe if you follow the same wizard as you used to setup the primary, and select all the relevant options (add to existing domain etc) it should work out fine.
