PL_ Veteran Posted May 31, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 31, 2006 (edited) I don't know if this is useful to anyone, but I made this in my spare time when I got really bored. It's a mash-up of info from different sources, but mostly from Wikipedia. It also helps explain to some people who were wondering why we are only on version 6 of Windows. LATEST REVISION: REVISION 8 Moved all the screenshots to the end, updated some info, reverted back to PDF style. Shetland
Its good:) I woul make it look a bit more professional with standard font sizes and a set colour scheme, also you don't structure your sentences as well as you could. " Then intended to be released after Vista, with Vista acting as a mid-way Windows. Then Vista became a major Windows. Then Windows: Codename “Fiji” was announced, acting as a mid-way Windows. Then Windows: Codename “Blackcomb” " then then then then :) aswell as that "then vista became a major Windows" should be something more along the lines of "then vista became the next major edition of the Windows OS" Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/465775-history-of-windows/#findComment-587616878 Share on other sites

" Then intended to be released after Vista, with Vista acting as a mid-way Windows. Then Vista became a major Windows. Then Windows: Codename ?Fiji? was announced, acting as a mid-way Windows. Then Windows: Codename ?Blackcomb? " then then th:) then :) aswell as that "then vista became a major Windows" should be something more along the lines of "then vista became the next major edition of the Windows OS" I tried having all in size 14, but it looked like such a mess, and was a lot better with less significant texts in 10. As for the colours, I chose distinguishable colours to make the technlolgies easy to identify. The sentence thing? Heh, really should re-read things before finishing. Thanks. DaveLegg Developer Posted June 18, 2006 Developer Share Posted June 18, 2006 Doesn't "Microsoft Bob" deserve a mention? :) Microsoft BOB wasn't actually a version of windows, it was an add-on to Windows 3.1 designed to make the pc seem more friendly to people who had never used one before. PL_ Veteran Posted June 18, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted June 18, 2006 Microsoft BOB wasn't actually a version of windows, it was an add-on to Windows 3.1 designed to make the pc seem more friendly to people who had never used one before. Wikipedia's Microsoft Bob... The user interface was designed to be helpful to novice computer users, but many saw its methods of assistance as too cute and involved. Each action, such as creating a new text document, featured thorough, step-by-step tutorials no matter how many times the user had been through the process. Users were assisted by cartoon characters whose appearence was usually vaguely related to the task. Additionally, there were glaring security flaws. While aspects of the system could be password protected, for privacy or child safety, any password could be defeated just by mistyping it three times. After the third unsuccesful attempt, the user would be presented with a dialog box saying "You seem to have forgotten your password. Would you like to change it to something you can remember?" Basically, it was awful :pinch: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/465775-history-of-windows/#findComment-587617567 Share on other sites
