installing Windows without bootcamp

Recommended Posts

From what I know Boot Camp is nothing more than a wizard that allows you to set up Windows op your Mac easily. It's the firmware inside your Intel Mac that does all the actual work. So yeah it should be 100% possible to install Windows without Boot Camp as long as you have installed the necessary firmware update installed.

Similar question,

How do I get Windows 2000 Professional installed with Boot Camp? I assume it doesn't work since it requires XP SP2 but funnily enough, I went to an Apple store and they had Windows 2000 (I am 100% it is Windows 2000) on an Intel iMac 20" behind the counter. They used it for their POS system/cash register at the counter.

I don't think they're using Parallels RC2 and I am certain (because I used it) that it isn't Windows XP. I'd prefer Windows 2000 on my MacBook 13" rather than XP (using Classic theme).

It's possible the 2000 machine was a remote system, with the XP mac acting as a dumb terminal

That might be the case nuggetman. It was running fullscreen and was smooth, so that led me to believe it was running natively but I suppose it could've been a remote connection.

I am 100% it is not Windows Classic as I was using the start menu, etc and it had Windows 2000 Professional down the side (with those ugly icons for My Computer, Network Connections, etc) that you see in Windows NT/2K and versions prior to XP.
