Anyone explain why Live Messenger is using 8GB hdd

Question

Browse to this location on your hdd (you may need to enable showing of system files/folders in folder options from control panel)

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\YOUR MSN LOGIN EMAIL\SharingMetadata\Working

Notice a file called

SimilarityTable_1

On mine windows reports this:

[see attachment]

Anyone else get this?

I dont have that MetaData folder, and as it says there "Size on Disk: 1MB", I wouldn't worry about it.

You have. You must uncheck "hide protected system files" in folder options.

My is 14 mb. Weird, cos' there are several Logs files, and they all have the same data [look attachment]

edit: maybe these files are from beta (log files?), so MRK, you didn't have beta installed?

This was caused by a bug in the earlier beta versions of Windows Live Messenger. As was posted on the official Windows Live Messenger blog, the entire folder is safe to delete.

Yep. I'm surprised people still have that folder lying around. Guess it shows who was actually paying attention during the beta ;).
