You'll never sell a single record. You didn't kill your grandmother or rape your dog. And definetly no "wikka wikka" sound. pffft, amatuer.

Two Things:

Did you listen to Subterranean Homesick Blues yet?

-and-

The reason rap is so popular with kids aged 13-18 is the same reason that rock & roll was popular back in the day.

Most kids' parents do not listen to rap, and a lot of parents dislike rap. Kids like to rebel. Elvis represented sex and grit, parents didn't like so kids did. Rap represents drugs and violence, parents dont like so kids do.

I am not saying rap and rock and roll are the same thing (in my opinion, music created with a voice and a computer is not music) but they convey the same feeling: rebellion.

Parents of children these days grew up with rock and roll and like it, so kids don't.

There is way moer to it than the beats and such, it is the overall message of the music itself.

I would say that Talking Blues songs were a precursor to rap.

Woody Guthrie made them "popular" and is often credited with the invention of it.

Of course Bob Dylan did some of those too, when he first went to New York, playing mostly Woody Guthrie covers.

But I hadn't ever noticed that Subterranean Homesick Blues was the next step...

Thats pretty cool...

oh, and by the way... I don't like rap.

Except Soul-Junk... which really isn't rap anyway...

All you saying that you don't need talent and that it's just talking over a beat, just go ahead and record something, play it back, and see if you would buy it. Not as easy as it seems, huh?

sense no rap sounds good and i'd never buy any rap then yes i'm as likely to listen too and buy some rap music i make than whoever does that stupid its going down song on the radio i am forced to hear almost every morning.

I can break down this whole thread for you in one post:

1. The sensible people - We like hip-hop and whatever; and like to discuss it and have fun and don't hate on other people for what they like.

2. the ardent mainstream defenders - OMGWTF BIGGIE 2PAC 4EVAR

3. the ardent indie defenders - OMGWTF SLUG ANTICON DEFINITIVE JUX AESOP ROCK 4EVAR

4. Trolls - you can't spell rap without _____ or the ever delightful "its not music" [Editors note: I especially like this one because it means they are the authority on it!]

And the sad part is that everyone except the #1's ruin these threads EVERYTIME. I mean, hey we want to discuss hip-hop. NOPE CANT DO THAT. Someone is going to troll the thread and be a massive a-hole and ruin it for the fans.

As to the rest of this thread:

I believe rap music no longer delivers a message.

I loved rap music back in the day. Doggy Style is one of the best rap albums of all time. Not forgetting Biggie and Tupac...Run DMC, Dre. :dj:

So you reference: Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Biggie and Tupac all of which talked about hustling? You're kidding right? the people whose message was get alot of money and do drugs?

You could have said Public Enemy, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest, Common or any multitude of good golden age hip-hop but you picked the most overrated people to rep hip-hop. I mean honestly those 5 are JUST off the top of my head.

I never listen to it.

Bob Dylan invented it.

I would say that Talking Blues songs were a precursor to rap.

Woody Guthrie made them "popular" and is often credited with the invention of it.

NO NO NO The style of rapping came from the tradition of "toasting" from Jamaican MCs. This moved onto the block parties which the MCs would "toast" the various gangs in attendence. As time went on the toasts got more complicated. Not to mention The Last Poets "spiels". Its poetry applied to a rhythm.

No you're wrong and Subterranean is not a hip-hop song by any means. I don't mean to be rude but you're just wrong.

sense no rap sounds good and i'd never buy any rap then yes i'm as likely to listen too and buy some rap music i make than whoever does that stupid its going down song on the radio i am forced to hear almost every morning.

SINCE, SINCE SINCE.

my opinion is that its all around bad and not really music. how it ever managed to become so mainstream and popular is beyond me.

Because it is music and hrmmm people liked it before it became mainstream? Therefore provding an audience?

How did Metal become popular?

I rather not comment on some of the stupidity said by Neowin members.

I like the music I listen to period. Don't like it? Eat a dick...

Please, enlighten us oh hip-hop guru, who obviously has a doctorate in history DO TELL US.

(in my opinion, music created with a voice and a computer is not music)

So The Roots is not Music? Shucks. I didn't know that sound waves that have notes, melody, and rhythm is not music. But hey thanks for informing us!

You could get a software program right now and do some rapping. Very easy. Plus have you seen some of the live rap videos.. Most people stand there... all sad lol

as I said before...would anybody BUY the rap you would do? I really doubt it. It takes a long time to be able to deliver in a way that would make people buy your music.

And honestly, I've been to a lot more rock concerta than anything else, but most of the time, those rock guys are just standing around as well. It's really only pop artists that do anything else

yes and you could do the same for rock music. So whats your point? Not to mention what about an entire genre of rock called "shoegazing" (My Bloody Valentine :heartomg:)

Metal is not music.

Its bad noise.

heh. you consider some form of singing(whether it be harsh or clean, of which either type doesnt exist in rap), and members who can actually play a musical instrument as noise? wow. just wow. the stuff rap fans say never ceases to amaze me...

    • Free Software Foundation Europe pushes EU to force Google to allow AI uninstalls on Android by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels Users should be able to fully uninstall AI-based features from Android devices and be able to access interoperability functions, free from Google’s verification requirements, the European Commission has heard as part of an Android interoperability consultation under the Digital Markets Act. These measures were proposed by the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) last week when it submitted its documentation. The FSFE noted that Google had started silently installing AI models without telling users. It noted that the EU’s DMA requires companies like Google to allow users to uninstall pre-loaded software from their devices, but in the case of the AI models Google is installing, they reinstall if you delete them, contravening the DMA. To get Google back under control, the FSFE has told the European Commission that there needs to be improvements within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). First, it said that users should be able to fully remove pre-loaded AI components from their devices, with companies being prohibited from silently reinstalling or reactivating them. Second, access to Android interoperability features should not be contingent on registration, authorization, or contractual relationships with Google. This pertains to Google’s attempt to force developers to register with Google, even to publish apps to alternative app stores like F-Droid. Discussing its submission, Lucas Lasota, FSFE Legal Programme Manager, said: Google is planning to roll out its Android Developer Certification in September 2026. This will force every Android app developer to register with Google before their software can be installed on certified Android devices, but it should affect those who have removed Google Apps from their device. The program is controversial because it entails the signing of contracts and payment of account fees to Google, as well as the handing over of the identities of developers. It said: The FSFE said that if the Commission’s draft measures remain unchanged, then Google will be allowed to make developers verify their identity. The FSFE believes that asking developers to register is contrary to the text and spirit of the law. In summary, the FSFE has told the Commission that no developer should need a Google account, a Play Store presence, or any agreement with Google to access Android’s interoperability features.
    • You could disable this "functionality/feature/whatever" with 2 registry keys, ages ago.
    • My Photos app is version 2026.11050.1001.0 and it remembers the window size and position. My Snipping Tool is version 11.2602.49.0 and it can capture the taskbar.
