Some classic rap (Tupac etc) was great. Nowadays you're lucky if you get a couple of tracks a year that are good. Most rap today is made purely for the money i.e. "50 Cent".

Stuff like Jay Z and Eminem is good because it actually has a meaning behind it, whereas 50 Cent's songs are mostly about Ho's

To all the haters saying music shouldn't be made on Computers:

A lot of the basic ideas were kicking around when I got all of my software on my laptop. They weren't things that would ever get to the band; they just worked in that isolated laptop space. There was no point in going to the others and saying, "Phi, do you want to try a beat on this?" Or, "Colin, do you want to play some bass?" Because the sounds and ideas were not from that sort of vibe.

Rap is monotonous to me... droning and sometimes even offensive. N*g*a this and B*t*h that. Same goes for RnB.

It's sad that after all that was discussed about this typical example of stereotyping and generalization, the same type of comments (like these) come in. It's interesting though - are the discussions simply not being read or taken into consideration?

Dance music sucks too - same monotonous beat over and over again for ten minutes :D j/k

Wow, sorry but there are some ignorant idiots in this thread.

I can understand people having a preference to a type of music, that's natural. But to instantly dismiss another genre on the basis that you don't like (and have formed opinions on) what you have heard on the radio, or MTV is just plain stupid.

Rap (like any other genre) has good artists and bad artists. As any genre, a lot of the lesser talented artists will follow the collom cliche's so as to fit in with the mainstream and piggyback sales. Face it, with rap the cliche's are guns, ho's, cars and dope. With metal it's goths, long hair and wailing. Hell with jazz it's seedy older men in ill-fitting suits. But look at the music that doesn't fit into the cliche's, get past what MTV is trying to sell you!

But even if you can't be bothered to do that, even if you want to live in a little box and listen only to your kind of music, then that's cool too. But don't be so ignorant as to cuss someone else's taste!

In the small music varieties I like excluding hiphop/rap, I didnt mind Marilyn Mansons album with the songs (m)Obscene and Slutgarden or something. I am 100% not goth :)

Far too many generilizations in this thread.

There's alot of different rap music out there.

I personally love Eminem's work. He's one of the few people out there who rhymes about his life and his emotions. Songs like Mockingbird and When I'm gone to take 2 quick exemples... even cleaning out my closet.

I think G-Unit take themselves way too seriously... that's why I like D12, because they **** around and make it funny.

Keep in mind that alot of rap music is just ENTERTAINMENT. Take it for what it is.

another of my favorite rap artists is Immortal Technique.

He made a mistake... oh noes. What about all the other very valid points he summed up ? He made a mistake but he is still right. Most people do associate metal with long hair.

No no no no no! I am not saying *I* think that. Hell I love some metal (admittedly towards the hard rock side than anything else). I am saying that this is one of the commonly perpetuated cliche's that really have very little founding! See, people who have no interest in discerning between sub-genres just bundle them all together!

Yeah, but it's funny seeing uneducated responses/opinions.

I can break down this whole thread for you in one post:

1. The sensible people - We like hip-hop and whatever; and like to discuss it and have fun and don't hate on other people for what they like.

2. the ardent mainstream defenders - OMGWTF BIGGIE 2PAC 4EVAR

3. the ardent indie defenders - OMGWTF SLUG ANTICON DEFINITIVE JUX AESOP ROCK 4EVAR

4. Trolls - you can't spell rap without _____ or the ever delightful "its not music" [Editors note: I especially like this one because it means they are the authority on it!]

And the sad part is that everyone except the #1's ruin these threads EVERYTIME. I mean, hey we want to discuss hip-hop. NOPE CANT DO THAT. Someone is going to troll the thread and be a massive a-hole and ruin it for the fans.

As to the rest of this thread:

So you reference: Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Biggie and Tupac all of which talked about hustling? You're kidding right? the people whose message was get alot of money and do drugs?

You could have said Public Enemy, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest, Common or any multitude of good golden age hip-hop but you picked the most overrated people to rep hip-hop. I mean honestly those 5 are JUST off the top of my head.

ok you forgot no. 5.

5. Guys who dont read a post to understand yet tear into the poster!

Most of the #2 guys as you have labeled us, have not said that they hate rap. That rap is crap. All we said was that the quality of rap music has declined over the years. And yes I did mention Dre, Snoop and Tupac, this was meant to indicate the period of rap music I speak of.

btw, I still believe these guys may not be as artistically gifted as the guys you mentioned, but it was these pioneers that brought rap into the mainstream. giving a chance to other artists to be heard...

    • You're absolutely right! No reason in hell these should be on the road!
    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
