ok you forgot no. 5.

5. Guys who dont read a post to understand yet tear into the poster!

Most of the #2 guys as you have labeled us, have not said that they hate rap. That rap is crap. All we said was that the quality of rap music has declined over the years. And yes I did mention Dre, Snoop and Tupac, this was meant to indicate the period of rap music I speak of.

btw, I still believe these guys may not be as artistically gifted as the guys you mentioned, but it was these pioneers that brought rap into the mainstream. giving a chance to other artists to be heard...

But they weren't pioneers! Run-D.M.C. are pioneers, Boogie Down are Pioneers. By the time Dr. Dre went solo and Tupac and Biggie entered the mainstream consioucness hip-hop had already been established for years.

I respect people who likes rap music. Music taste is all personal preference, and I don't think anyone should be criticised for their like of art. Classical, country, rap, rock, pop, hip hop, rnb, all good. I mean, I am more of a rock kind of guy, but hey it's what they like

Anyway back on topic, I am not a big fan of modern rap or hip hop. All those nice cars and disrespect of women thing is getting pretty lame... and so-called studio gangsters and 'artists' like 50 cent, lloyd banks etc is really bringing it down. IMO they dont really have any vocal range, possibly no real singing talent, and the tunes just suck (IMHO anyway). Their song also have no real meaningful lyrics, all shallow (like Simple Plan, except they are rock), talks about useless or even to an extent offensive material to certain groups. In addition to that, a lot of the modern rap probably loses half of its content if all the profanity were to be removed.

It's not music to me... just a bunch of meaningless and often offensive lyrics (remember I am mentioning MODERN rap here) with no real tunes and no 'actual' singing skills involved. Not my type of lyrics due to my opinions. Opinions... yeah thats what I think... may or may not be true to everyone.

So in conclusion, rock is more my taste, but if you like rap, enjoy your music and be happy. after all, it's personal preference and personal entertainment, who cares what others think?

I have been to many hip-hop shows and followed it religiously for as long as I can remember. I have gotten daps and autographs from Madlib and Defari. I am wearing an Okayplayer shirt as I type this. I have started a 4th sentence with I, but I will not finish it with that. The state of rap is in dire straights (like Mark Knopfler) because these days everyone is a producer or an emcee, yet nobody says ****! I can go through myspace and everybody is a rapper yet 90% don't even know what battling is or even signed up for one. I patiently wait for the one who will truly change the game and not regurgitate what Pac and Biggie already said best.

Remember kids keystyle is just another word for ovaltine drinking candy asses.

Is it too early to mourn, is it too late to ride?

I didn't bother reading the last several pages of this thread, but it seems to me like most people base their opinions on rap as to only what they hear on the radio. I could chastise these people, but they've got a point. I honestly don't like most of what I hear on the radio, either. Right now the only thing that gets played is something that has a club beat with people shouting outrageous or catchy phrases in the background. It kind of sucks because that's what more and more "rap artists" are putting out nowadays just to get some airtime.

I can totally respect the dislike of that, as I'm with you 100%. I just wish more people could hear some of the stuff with better lyrics, rythms, and background music, but like with other genres it's becoming more and more rare to hear something that music lovers would like to hear on our radio stations.

I never listen to it.

Bob Dylan invented it.

YEAH! Hip-Hop originated in Harlem/Brooklyn, but could go way further back when blacks had lots of fun in plantations. It was around before The Beatles even formed! Dylan is a genius, but the ignorance of that statement is uncanny.

I listen to all types of music with exception to techno, but you don't hear me saying things that aren't true about it.

I would also like to say to the Aussie who said you can't have crap without rap this:

Thanks for Silverchair, Jett, The Vines, and Bush. I would rather put road apples in my microwave then subject myself to that...CRAP!

PS - This thread sucks.

Rap Sucks and so does Soul

Love live Rock and Roll

But Soul music influenced Rock artists. Do you even realize what you are saying before you post it? You might as well have posted this:

WELL RAP SUCKS AND I WON'T PUT ANY SUPPORTING ARGUEMENTS TO MY POST BUT I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG AND {OAUFBO{AJEGBJOGB{AOIGBOG{IOGN{OG LOOK AT ME WEEEEEE

Because both reak of unintellectual idiocy (no offense to you personally, but the post is horrendous). At the very least say WHY you don't like it. Or at the very least respect what Soul music has given to the world (rock music). If you even dare to argue that soul music in no way influenced rock music you are just straight up wrong and I will take pleasure in destroying you with facts.

Most Rap music is 'Gangsta Rap which is unfortunate. I won't support an industry that glorifies sex, drugs, murder and self-indulgence and this seems to be what the vast majority of Rap music revolves around. I suppose one of the few good things about Rap music is that it, as an industry, provides jobs for people who are otherwise unemployable.

IMHO Rap music has done for the African-American community what legalized gambling has done for the Native-Amercian community.....nothing other than making a few people wealthy.

Rhythm and poetry a.k.a rap.

Now run dmc are good, however some stuff after 1984 is a poor example.

Each to their own.

no its Hip-Hop again, Rap is a verb its something you do. And don't give me this "Rap is mainstream and hip-hop is indie" because its not. Its either Hip-hop or its not.

No its not. Most Hip-hop on the radio is gangster rap would be a true statement.

So you won't support:

Any form of dance music (glorifies drugs: alcohol and other hard drugs)

Any rock music (glorifies sex, murder, drugs and self-indulgence)

any country music (glorifies murder, drugs, sex)

I mean as long as you aren't being hypocritical right? So you'll stop supporting those industries correct?

Your kidding right?

I used to be a SERIOUS gamer, like everday for a few hours. It was like a 'hobby' or whatever, now rap slowly took over me, now every single day when I wake up I come to my pc. Put rap music on.

When I go out, put rap music on (mp3 player).

When I'm in a car, put rap music on.

When I have nothing to do, write rap.

When I'm on a long journey, write rap.

When I'm in the mood, write rap.

When I'm out with friends, freestyle.

When I go to bed, put music on (or Family Guy :p )

I don't agree with people that say rap its not music but i think today's rap represent a very bad image of black people, all you hear is the "N" word on every sentence, black people back in 70s and 80s fought with their life just so they can get rid of the "N" word out of the streets and now days every idiotic singer use it as if nothing has happen to black people and how bad racisim was on them days, thats sad honestly. So many teenagers around world are getting brainwashed by rap music and thinking they can live the same lifestyle as shown on TV. Yes im talkin about the rap that is shown on TV or put on Radio, bluddy disrespectful image of women being used like wh**res. I don't really give a crap what anyone has to say but the reality speaks for itself. Than you get these white boy gangster wannabes, so pathetic in my opinion.

The only rappers i always enjoyed listening to were Nano and Mc Hammer. Thats what i call pure music, no swearing, no drugs, no blig blig this and that. Rap is a music genre but really shows a bad image of people and obviously people will judge by what they see on TV or hear in the radio.

Someone made very constructive point about today's rap music targeting purposely young people (teenagers) and thats why you have so many young wannabes wondering around the streets because they easily get currupted because they are young and what they seen on TV really make them think that everyone can achieve the same thing, Drugs, cars, being able to kill anyone coz your so cool, got guns, women and money i mean what more do you want.

I dn't hate rap but i don't like it how those fake @ss singers represent it. I have to admit it that music these days has become full of sh***t, not just rap but all other genres, almost everyone wants to be a singer, there are so many copy cats, there are so many bands and singers that basically sing the same sh***t over and over. Today everyone is a singer, and whats so stupid is that even bluddy TV adverts are converted to songs such as ""AA" "RAC" "Halifax" etc, bluddy pathetic if you asked me.

Anyway my conclusion is this, every one of you including me has a taste on music, so you stick to your taste and i stick to mine.

Rap: good beat but full of bad language and bad image.

;)

ITS NOT RAP. ITS HIP-HOP!!!

Honestly, how hard is this to understand??

I don't pay attention to the hip-hop on TV these days, except the select few artists here and there. I pay attention to UK artists regardless, though. Plan B, and Grime MCs that make it into the commercial world (although that isn't really good for the artists's quality, it's a trade-off of quality for money).

I used to like 50 when his first album came out, but after that he got annoying. 50 and G-Unit are waste.

A lot of rap to me just plain sucks. Yes, there are some people who have some talent, but many of them are crap. Kanye is probably the only one I like because he doesn't put so many dang video hoes in his music videos. Most rap is a bad representation of the black community.

Personally, I cannot listen to rap or hip-hop, it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable for some reason. However, I can understand that people really like it, so I'm not one to call it crap or "not music". I don't like people calling the music I listen to terrible, so I don't say it to other people. It's all a matter of opinion. All genres of music have fakes and geniuses.

Im really into Busta Rhymes' remix of touch it, im listening to it loads at the moment.

BTW what happened to dmx? havn't heard anything about him in ages.

I could be wrong but I dont think hes done anything since '03.

Rap IS a music genre. Hip-Hop is another music genre.

Yes Rap is ALSO a verb - but there is no denying that Rap is a genre. It's arguably a sub-genre of hip-hop, but it's not the same thing!

Thank you for an intelligent post, it makes a nice change from the usual "rap sucks" posts.
