I think Rap is GARBAGE!

It gives me a laugh every once in a while though.

It amazes me that some women like it - for example, in 'Get Your Roll On' they talk about punching and smacking bitches, ROFL!

Most of the lyrics are awful, the (repetitive) beats are too.

Well at least we know he has a doctorate in music theory because he told us ITS NOT MUSIC............. PERIOD. You see the over exaggerated use of the ellipses means he has graduated from the highest universities of the world. No doubt we should refer to him as Dr. naap51stang because he is a farking GENIUS PEOPLE!

Here's also my opinion: Making music takes a lot more than just rhyming to a rhythm with the very occasional tonal change. Don't tell me what I can and can not call my opinion.

Well then don't express your opinion as fact? You saying that "Rap is not music" is not the same as saying "In my opinion rap is not music because: x, y, z".

It has or can have: rhythm, harmony, and melody so whats your point?

I didn't come on and simply say rap is not music. I said "Here's my opinion: Rap is not music." In no way did I make it seem as though what I said was fact. What is the difference between saying "In my opinion rap is not music" and "Here's my opinion: Rap is not music"?

The rythm in rap is typically a four beat repeating line that remains unchanged throughout the entire "song". This also plays the "harmony" part, and how is monotone poetry a melody?

Man you sound so paranoid when some one says "rap is crap / rap is not music" :rofl:

To me rap is rubbish but i didn't want to say it because i know i would get flamed so i just said i didn't like it.

I've never liked rap and never will. Only music i will ever like is Metal and Rock. :devil:

Really lame :rolleyes:. This thread asked for opinions for rap music, that's what he is doing, don't go complain because people have different taste of music than you.

If you are looking for arguments there are plenty of them in this thread, just pick one.

Any form of music does not need to be complicated to be called music like you state.

Think of the earliest formes of ancient "music" uncomplicated, yet music.

Techno is perhaps complicated, but its also brain food for airheads.

I'm not saying it has to be complicated, but I am saying it needs to have a basic concept of music. That being said, the "oldest known song" in cuneiform is 4000 years old. It was composed in harmonies of thirds, like ancient English gymel, and was also written using a diatonic scale. This ancient music contains the basics of music, and is thusly considered music.

According to musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez, "The border between music and noise is always culturally defined--which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus.... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be."

In simpler terms, music is defined by what YOU think is or isn't music. So, what I think is music will not necissarily be what YOU consider music, and vice versa. As mentioned in my first post, it is my opinion that rap is not music. You won't change my mind and I don't expect to change yours.

- We are the only organism that produces art FOR THE REASON THAT we are the only organism that has a SPIRIT

- SO art must include elements that relate to our spirit !!! (otherwise it can not be considered art)

Today's rap only includes Appetites (and a small degree of Intellect) [No spirit]

!!! So no, today's rap is not art !!!

BTW... representing spirit does not mean that it has to be religious - there are many, many other ways to represent our spirit (which disgtinguishes us from all other animals)

Art must include elements of the human spirit (since we are the only organism that produces art... so obviously it is unique to humans)

Todays rap doesn't have this element...... it is not art

If you want a proper explanation... try taking a couple Aesthetic Philosophy courses or something.

I can not develope a full / proper explanation / arguement on a forum.

I think it counts as music, but it's a lazy form of music.

You only need to be able to string a sentence together and not even that, you can just make some grunting noises and "yeah yeah yeah" "uhhuh uhhuh uhhuh" and add a 2 - 3 beat in the background.

I think it is just lazy.

      It certainly is a waste of time clicking it if you're not interested in Windows 11's development. If that were the case for you, you could easily ignore the headline and move on given the headline makes it clear that's what the article is about. Instead, you're contradicting yourself here calling it a waste of time yet clicking on the headline and commenting... If it were a totally different topic being presented than what's stated in the headline, then you'd certainly have a point, 'cause that's totally deceptive and unavoidable if not actually interested. On the contrary, here you can totally avoid it if you're truly not interested.
