I guess that generally I like rap music, but it depends (a) on the particular music and (b) on my particular mood. There's a lot of stuff that sounds rappish that I don't care for. But there's a lot I like. But then I'm rather catholic in my musical tastes.

I suppose I like most genres of music, but I do have trouble at times with "Country & Western" and jazz, the first because it strikes me as kinda boring and the second because it's so pretentious (or can be).

I really like some rap and hip-hop music. I have a pretty wide and diverse taste in music though, unlike a lot of people.

I have a weird mentel problem where I always have to be listening to new music (new to me). I get tired of specfic kinds of music very quickly and have to buy more music. I usually hate all the songs on my "most played" playlist in iTunes if that tells you anything about me.

But I actually like rap and hip-hop music. It gives life some spice.

I like very little rap music.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy is cool.

Here and there I've heard some catchy songs but I can't relate with most of the over-indulgent themes of most modern rap music...and the crap that goes for punk now.

I like mostly older music from the 50-early 80s. Radiohead is great for 90's music too!

If i were to put on music in the backgrand and start talking to myself about linux it would come out the same as a rap. It's the same thing. It's just a guy talking while someone plays a beat in a background. Not to mention all these rappers do is bitch. Bitch bitch bitch bitch. They have such a hard life don't they? Rap is for monkys and neanderthals. End of story.

You sound like you have no idea what you're talking about. Like, I don't even know how to return that argument it's just so..dumb.

Kids, they listen to the rap music. It gives them the brain damage you see?

With the hippin and hoppin and the bippin and the boppin... BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE JAZZ IS ALL ABOUT!

You see, jazz is like jello puddin. NO - Kodak Film. NO. Actually jazz is like the new coke, it'll be around forever, heh heh heh.

- Bill Cosby

lol in the simpsons, anyway

there is a lot of crap out there, but there is still a lot of good stuff still, game new album is going to be hot, effin jay-z just has to come back and ruin black album, which in my opinion is a classic album, i hope the new one sucks and he gets embrassed for being greedy. And everytime i hear someone listening to mike jones, i want to go and hit them really hard, he defines HIP POP!

lupe fiscao

This is real Hip hop....listen to what he is saying.

Lupe is the breathe of fresh air hip hop needed. He's the best thing to happen to music in the past few years. Lyrical genius with amazing songs. (Y) Nas, Talib, Lupe, Jay-Z, KRS, Gang Starr, etc.

i used to hate rap but now i am starting like it. although i can not stand the "retard rap". i like stuff such as deltron, del tha funky homosapien, three 6 mafia, xzhibit, and ghetto boys. mainly stuff that has a really good beat that is not cheesy such as soulja boy - crank that.

rap music, that's an oxymoron. Like Government Intelligence. Don't get me wrong, I think some rap is good entertainment, but it's that, entertainment. Music requires musicians... When was the last time we saw a rapper playing a guitar or a piano. Kudo's to those who do. The rap that's got the electronic computer generated sounds behind it aren't really music. Don't listen to me though, I'm just a biased musician. ;)

now i dont want to seem like an ass but.....

mu?sic [myoo-zik]

–noun

1.an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

taken straight from dictionary.com

it seems that rap is music. now it may seem that the lyrics have no beat but if you listen enough then you will see a beat.

The rap that's got the electronic computer generated sounds behind it aren't really music.

Whats wrong with trying to find a new sound? Where would be be if people didnt try new sounds in music? Hitting rocks with sticks for music.

took the words right out of my mouth. although i haven't heard any rap that i can bear to listen to yet. :x

After reading all 20 pages, anyone that says rap isn't music is beyond ignorant. BTW, all music is entertainment. That is what the business is about. All artist are, guess what???? Entertainers :o I understand some people won't like it because they can't relate to it and that's all good but to knock a genre because you can't get into it, that's beyond ridiculous. I listen to just about anything. From The Isley Brothers to Beastie Boys to 50 Cent to Fall Out Boys to Nickelback and Linkin Park. Maybe I'm expecting people to have an open mind like me and that is most likely wrong since the majority of people have close minds and only care about themselves and never about the next person. If someone was in need of help, would you not help them if they were pumping Crank That by Soulja Boy?

i call Pop music 'entertainment' too. no talent ass clowns playing their simple music that some 6th grader could play. yay.

i dont like 95% of rap either. especially that loud stuff where you just have 6 guys yelling to some beat about skeet skeet on a girl

wow, im sound like a Grandpa... but i was trying to hold back.

what i dont understand with the rap concept is, why do they keep on saying ''niga''....when the black community (which the majority of rap/hiphop derives from) try to move away from their oppressive era?

saying things such as ''a niga actin up ...and niga please'' .... really is degrading....im a white....and think its pretty degrading to the black community. :(

sorry for using the ''niga'' word...... im not racist....just saying it without trying to be all policitically correct.

that what drives me away from rap music......

btw...i spelt ''niga'' like that...because neowin's content filter blocks it out....

    • WTF! Nah, not this one. If you were back then using computers in the 90s or you had a clue, you'd know this was huge and was seen and overused absolutely everywhere and you'd take this article as no more than a retrospective story. That's all it is.
    • these "editors" get paid by the amount of articles and not the quality of content; hence why we get this random stuff from the same "editor" time and time again.
    • 256 times the quality of an audio cd? I think audio cd's sound good so even twice as good as that would be something.
    • It’s not about the NOx. It’s about the electrical field.
