Well i recently changed my ISP because of a bandwith cap and went out to buy a hub, but not knowing i cant use it on a cable connection i had to return it and got a Linksys Cable/DSL Router instead (BEFSR41-CA) well i got it home took it out of the box and plugged it in put the cd in and did what it said, but i knew it wasnt goign to be this easy so i found some sites where ppl had the same problems but i noticed they got into some configuration window so i look it up in the instructions (they provided me only french instructions and i dont know a word of french) and noticed i had to go to http://192.168.1.1 in my IE window but it won't go there and im having a really hard time figuring this out.

Any help would be appreciated very much, you can reach me on AIM at IVIaster1333.

Plz hurry i dont know if i can hold my dad of much longer :s

Try setting your computer to get an IP address automatically. Then reboot the computer *while being connected to the router*.

This will give you an address from the router and should allow you to connect to it.

If you have static information set in your IP settings, write them down (just incase) before you delete them.

Hope this helps.

Well i tried doing that and even receting the modem but i still cant get to that setup screen, they show in the instructions that it should be a breeze getting there but i have no clue why it's not letting me access it. I have checked get ip automaticaly and tried to release all the info and reboot computer but still no luck.

Anyone else think they can help me out?

Set your ip address to 192.168.1.2, your subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and your gateway to 192.168.1.1. If all is well, open a command window (Start -> Run -> cmd) and type "ping 192.168.1.1" You should see something similiar to this:

PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1): 56 octets data

64 octets from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.3 ms

64 octets from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.2 ms

64 octets from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.2 ms

--- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ---

3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max = 0.2/0.2/0.3 ms

As long as it says 0% packet loss, you're set. Now try going to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser.

did you do all the powerdown/powerup sequences the manual said to do?

I believe you are supposed to powereverthing down, turn on the modem, wait, then turn on the router. after the router boots up , plug your computer in and turn it on. Make sure your computer is in DHCP mode (the router auto assign's ip)... once your computer is on and you have a 192.168.xx.xx ip, you should be ready to get online

I'm assuming you can access the Internet, otherwise this would not be of any use.

I live in Toronto...I have a Linksys Wireless Router that I set up myself 2 months ago..with no problems yet.

Here are a few links that will push you in the right direction:

1. Quick Install Guide based on the Operating System Used.

2. Support Page for the BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router

3. Download the "BEFSR41 USER GUIDE" ( PDF Format )

Hope this will assist you.

Let us know.

- pc #1 has the internet

- pc #2 doesent have the internet but is in the admin screen

- The modem and router are by pc #1

well what do i have to do in this setup window or on pc#1 to get this thing working, it's getting really frustrating and my parents are kicking me out of their room where pc #1 is located.

I just bought the same router to share our cable connection. On the windows computers, set everything (ip, dns, etc) to get automatically. All the settings should be auto. Hook the ethernet cable into the network card and reset. Internet should be working when it boots up. Thats all i had to do for my roomates pc.

If pc 1 is hooked up through the router and getting internet, pc 2 should be working as well. Under the router settings, make sure, under the DHCP tab, that it is enabled, and click apply. You shouldn't have to manually input the ip, dns, etc into the computers.
