Mounting CD images on Ubuntu

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying really hard to fully migrate from Windows to Ubuntu Linux. I've successfully replaced many apps that are "mission-critical" to my personal operation...things like Klibido instead of Grab-It, gFTP instead of FileZilla, Gaim instead of MSN Messenger, the list goes on.

One of my personal quirks is that I hate using CDs or DVDs, everything I do is run from virtual discs. I use CloneCD in conjunction with AnyDVD to create an image which I then categorize and store on a 500gb RAID0 array. When it comes time to use the disc, I mount the image with Daemon-Tools and proceed with my business. Sometimes, I obtain images from other sources that are not in CloneCD format, sometimes they are *.iso, *.img, the list goes on. The one common factor is that Daemon-Tools can mount them.

Right now, I'm looking for a way to duplicate this behavior completely independent of my Windows system. If it's a script that executes some sort of non-standard mounting of the image under the /mnt directory or an application, I'm not that picky. Any advice that the community can provide would be most appreciated, keeping in mind that this is one of the few remaining "linch-pins" between using Windows or a 100% complete Ubuntu Linux migration :)

Much Appreciated ~ Tech_8356

Mounting iso files is really simple in ubuntu, just a few commands. I do not know them by heart but you can check http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#How_to_...without_burning when it comes back online.

If you want to mount non-iso images you'll have to use cdemu or convert them with bchunk to .iso . I don't have any experience with that yet, but this thread will probably help you out http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=149963
