5 Firefox extensions you can't live without

Recommended Posts

You have a really bad list there:

All in One Sidebar: useless

Scrapbook: useless

Fasterfox: about:config

Session Manager: Tab Mix Plus

Tab Mix Plus: redundant

My 5 most important extensions:

1. Tab Mix plus

2. NoScript

3. Adblock Plus

4. Web Developer Toolbar

5. Download Statusbar

Here's my 5 FF extensions I can't live without:

All-In-One gestures - Mouse gestures just changed my browsing manners. Really addicted to them.

AdBlock [without any preset filters] - I hate ads :)

Session Saver - No need for comment

Stumble Upon - Didn't anyone try that? One of the greatest extensions in my opinion.

Tabbrowser Preferences - I need options. Lot's of options.

and some other extensions i can live without, but nevertheless they are good

Compact menu

Remove It Permanently

Customize Google

FlashGot

Looks good except the part when you tell people to turn off the prefetching. That does increase the bandwidth usage, not only for you but for all the poor webmasters who pay their hosting company for bandwidth used and then have to pay extra $$ just because you can't wait half a second for the page to load.

I partly agree. It would depend on the site. If it is just small HTML pages with few images, it isn't going to be much of a problem at a couple of Kb each time. If it is an image heavy page, it could be a problem if you're a busy website (but if you're that busy, you can probably afford extra anyway). Bandwidth can be pretty cheap if you look around though (I get 30Gb a month for ?5 a month from my host).

NoScript is both the most useful, and most annoying extension on my Firefox. Useful because I can choose which to allow (and thus block unneccessary script for ads), but annoying because I often forget to enable a site, and spend 30 seconds wondering why it won't work. My others are IEView, GMail Notifier and Google Calendar Notifier.

I must say that that list isn't really of "essentials", just of someones personal preferences. Everyone is going to have different preferences. eg: I wouldn't like that sidebar extension - I hate the sidebar in Opera, as I'm forever accidentally opening it, and I can't see a real purpose to it (other than being in the way). There are others who like it though.
