Microsoft, What Did You Do...?

Recommended Posts

We have two computers in our house that both have Windows 2000 Professional Sp4 installed on them and ever since the latest group of Patches & Updates were issued by Microsoft (Earlier this week) Internet Explorer 6.0 is basically dead on them.

Internet Explorer 6.0 launches and then if I go to some sites (Neowin, Engadget & Nexopia have been the main issues) this error message appears or Internet Explorer just randomly closes:

post-25252-1155417454_thumb.jpg

If I hit "Send Error Report", it sends the report off and then says that they have more information but the information just says it's an unknown cause why it did this :pinch: . The strange thing is sometimes sites work and sometimes they will crash Internet Explorer.

I know that one of Microsoft's Patches they released on Windows Update has caused this to happen due to not only have two Win2k computers done this in my house but one of the computers has nothing else installed on it; only patches and updates have been put on it so it's not like there's an issue between multiple programs that I've installed.

I have tried multiple things to fix this but nothing seems to work (Such as reinstalling IE); It's strange cause our Xp Computer has no issues on the internet with Internet Explorer.

Please help, and don't just say get FireFox; I do not want FireFox, I want IE.

Something that may happend is that there a prob with "ntdll.dll", since it state this module as the defective one...

Does it always says "ntdll.dll" in ModName?

And please, can you explain why you still want IE?

I don't say this to make you move, but you need to admit a fact. IE is old and feature-less in front of newer browser as FireFox or Opera.

If it could remove your problem by putting a more advanced browser, I don't know why you don't do it...

Hum... you may have your reasons... This is not at me to decide for you. Just tell me about that ModName...

Well i would say just get windows XP on your systems but since Vista is so close to being out this next january you should wait. but in the mean time go download firfox on someones system burn to disk and ther

we don't even know what his system specs are to even recommend vista

A user on another forum told me how to fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923762/en-us

I don't see what's so much better about Firefox; I really don't. I have used Internet Explorer my whole life and it's never been an issue. I have Internet Explorer 7 on my Xp computer and IE 6 on the rest of my computers so why switch?

Firefox is too over rated, I really don't see why it's that much better. I had it installed on my Xp machine for a couple hours and I really didn't see what everyone likes so much about it.

Just my opinion,

Right choice

Have you tried cleaning the registry? I would recommend jv16 PowerTools 2006 Use the RegistryCleaner feature and scan in 'normal mode' (not aggressive)

Well XP Pro would be the best choice for him.your right about vista being out in Jan '07 but best bet is to wait for a Service pack ( such as vista SP1 ). so then all the bugs would be out,and may be even extra features that won't be in the final realse.

Hey Barret,

You find Firefox overrated? Yes it is.

People says that FF is more faster, I don't beleive it that mush, IE is integrated to Windows futhermore, it load faster.

I'm a Firefox user, I had switch from IE since FF 1.0, why?

As I said, IE is old... it asbeen released on late August 2001. Firefox 1.5 as been released on late September 2005. So it have 4 years of evolution (thourough Mozilla) behind him. What caugh my attention?

IE don't support PNG Transparency,

IE lack of support in CSS (I'm not a codding guy, but my friend who work as building websites says that making a site working in IE is a nightmare and he need to overwork on a site that already work in FF),

FF have a DownloadManager (Feature-limited, but if your internet goes wrong at 99% of a 600MB file, you will be happy to not restart it from the start... right?)

And offcourse... FF as TABS... (I'm the guy that have 5 sites open in same times...)

This is my main reasons why I had switched...

Oh another thing...

Look at stuff I liked of FF and made me switch...

Now take a look at IE's history Wiki page, what Significant changes IE 7.0 as? CSS Fixes, PNG Transparency, CSS Fixes, Tabs and does I told about CSS Fixes?

And when I had tried IE7 B3 I was felling like a little copy of FF without the costomisation liberty of FF... It's like, it build like that, use it as it come...

But oh well, this is only my own opinion you know...

Lot of people stay with IE since that it is just, simple...

Yes, IE work out of the box, it do the job for 70% of Internet users.

Finaly, if you are happy with this simple Browser, that what count for you...

Ok Ok... sorry to bother you with FF... I leave...
