Flash Player 9 for Mac OS X out of Beta

Not sure when this was released but the Universal and PowerPC versions are out of Beta now:

Works much better than the old version 8 on my MacBook, music playing from myspace no longer stops when looking at a different tab!

Indeed... I didn't quite understand the point of releasing Universal and PowerPC versions either... Surely Intel/PowerPC versions or just Universal would make more sense?

My guess is that the "Universal Binary" isn't actually Universal but Intel only. So basically they need to rephrase the titles if that's the case.

But the Universal version is twice the filesize of the PPC version, which would imply that it includes both the PPC and Intel versions...

I still get the bug where if you scroll down and the up the quality of the flash is shot, however it does remain at high. Anyone else getting this?

Probably won't be before Mac OS X Leopard gets released as it contains Leopard-specific features.

Doing a Get Info on some of the components shows that it is indeed Universal.

agreed, having to use wine and firefox to view flash content because the linux player is ancient is totally weak

on the mac front the universal one works great on my powerbook, it might even be very slightly better performing than the powerpc one, although gamevideos.com still kills safari and camino with all it's flash crap
