What size Samsung LCD to buy based on bang/buck?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I will be purchasing an LCD HDTV probably within the next month or so and I have been wondering what size panel should I get based on the following two.

Since I am a Best Buy employee, I get a discount on them and the price difference between the two is roughly $250. This TV is for a pretty small room (my room) and I will be using it for basically the PS3 and watching TV. The TV will be roughly 7 feet away from me when viewing it.

Based on that, what do you guys recommend? :)

The 26" is probably going to be more than enough. You have to realize, they look really small in the store and can, perceptively, almost double in size when you bring them home. Your store has the LNS2651? Damn, you're lucky. Mine doesn't.

Ditto on the perception thing. While a 30" TV may not look big in the store (especially when surrounded by 40-50 inch screens), it certainly looks bigger once it's home in your room.

Also, if you check out the 'viewing distance' calculators online and punch in a 26" LCD, you get an ideal viewing distance of 6.5', as opposed to 8' for a 32" screen. So mathematically speaking, you're better off with a 26" screen. :)

We don't have it, but the store up the highway does ;)

What I did notice in the store was that the 26" TV's look really small, but that could also be because its surrounded by 50" TV's and it makes it look like a 15" monitor next to a 22 inch one. Nonetheless, I think I will go with the 26" since those extra $250 can be put into something else, considering I will not be viewing the TV from too far away.

Now, what else do I need to buy, Chris? Besides the PSP, obviously :p

Well, get the HD box from your service provider and pick up an HDMI cable. Also, get the Monster Screen Cleaner. That thing is sick on cleaning LCD screens.

A 32" set has a 51.9% larger viewing area based on 16:9 material.

The 26" is also 16:9 :p

Mind pointing out which cable is good for the price?

You have something set up wrong then, because it's a beautiful set.

Its a possiblity. The colors dont look right. The quality is great. I keep it on DiscoveryHD JUST to see the picture quality. But it seems as if the color is a little off.

So fool around with the image settings a bit. Get a calibration disc if it really bothers you.

It doesnt really bother me. Im not one of those "OMG THE PICTURE SUXXXX!!!!" type people. Im good with regular Coax. connection to be honest. But I figured HD would be MUCH MUCH better. Imma play with it a bit.
