Denis W. Veteran Posted September 3, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2006 Go to Start, Run, and type in %APPDATA% (copy and paste it the way it is). Locate the folder named "Mozilla", and rename it to "Mozilla.old" (without quotes). Now try running Firefox. Does it still lock up? (Before you freak out, yes, none of your personal settings will be applied; you're starting with a fresh new profile. If Firefox doesn't lock up, it's your profile that's causing problems.) Denis W. Veteran Posted September 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 6, 2006 I'm guessing the next possible causes are apps that monitor your Internet traffic, i.e. firewalls and security suites. Try temporarily disabling them and see if that still causes lockups. noroom
The same happens to me too. Even on safe mode. I haven't tried using a new profile though. Is it all that different to using safe mode? pristine.source
Hello, I had this same issue and after searching the net for about 4 hours i found nothing, i did finnally resolve the issue tho, it turns out that the issue is with the hyperthreading in som of the P4 chips, i tested this on a non-HT machine and it worked fine, but on mine it still hung at randoms spots, what i ended up doing was this: 1. right-click on the icon that you launch firefox from 2. click on properties 3. this should have opened a new window, click on the "Compatibility" tab 4. check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" 5. in the drop down box below it select "Windows 98 / Windows ME" 6. click ok at the bottom 7. restart firefox 8. thats it it should be fine now on a hyperthreading system -- "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." --Rich Cook. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/492088-firefox-hanging/page/2/#findComment-587925204 Share on other sites
