CS:S modding question.

Recommended Posts

I"m trying to install a custom skin for CSS for the first time.. and I'm trying to figure out where the models, sounds and etc is. I know it's in the Valve/Steam/myaccountname/counter-strike source/cstrike folder. but I can't seem to find it. can anyone help? I've already did the "show hidden files" thing already.

http://www.csnation.net/articles.php/article_225/ <- I'm following that.

I assume you downloaded this custom skin?

It's probably zipped/Rared, so it really should contain a Readme or have the Folder Structure for easy install.

But usually, the .Wav files ( Or whatever CS uses ) go sounds, .Mdl files go Model folder and .Spr Files go to Sprites :)

That's how it was in CS, i haven't tried installing custom skins for CS:S.

yeah it's zipped rared.. and I don't think this make any sense cause if I just make a model folder, it obviously won't replace the orignal one in CSS.

Was reading over at Half-Life 2 files, the Source section.

Most skins had this as install instructions,

"Installation

Place in your counter-strike source\cstrike\materials folder and your set."

:)

hmmm.. do I make a new folder? for models in the materials folder? or what do I do? and place what exactly.

Downloaded a quick skin,

Here's the folder structure,

C:\My Files\Programmer\Steam\steamapps\<EMAIL>\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\models\weapons\v_models\<Folder with name of Skin>\Skin .VMT files here!

Either the folder structure is in the Rar or you create them yourself!

I know I"m a hassle, but I still don't get it. >.< did your materials folder have the models folder or do I have to create them myself?

My rar came with only v_,p_,w_ and sound (wav) files.

The Materials folder was empty, except a folder named Vgui.

You gotta create them yourself.

Just a tip, download Skins where the folder structure is in the RAR files next time :) So much easier!

hmm.. is this a problem? I have .mdl files.. not .vmt files. :|

Sorry, didn't see that last part until now

I'd have to say no thanks mate, i enjoy CS: Sources' Graphics and ideas but the random hitboxes, odd lag compensation ... I just can't take it :pinch:
