New iPod nano (8GB Black) Review

Recommended Posts

very nice.

now if they would only make the video ipods out of aluminum like this the ipod would be perfect...

I totally agree . . I want nothing more that the next gen (6G) Ipod's to be aluminum like the nano's, I'm sick of how easy the regular ipods scratch.

I am so tempted to get one, mainly so I can get the Nike+iPod adapter.

My iPod Mini has done its job and is still working perfectly...but I want a black nano!

I just got my 8 GB black nano today. It's so much smaller once you actually hold it, and the build quality is amazing. Just like the iPod mini, the nano doesn't scratch or get dirty because of the anodized aluminum.
Just curious.. why would you buy a black 8GB nano for the same price as a 30GB blck iPod?

Great Review though. Oh, and im not bashing your purchase, just curious as to Apple's reasoning for pricing.

  • Flash memory is more durable than a hard drive.
  • I want a small MP3 player.
  • I don't watch videos and don't have more than 10 GB of music.

So for me, the 8 GB nano was perfect. It holds all my music, is very small and durable because of flash memory.

+ nano has better battery life (supposedly 24h) ;)

Ipods are not locked down to just iTunes. Just for the record you can use other software on it such as RockBox, which gives you a host of options and even bundles some nice little games with it as well. Plus you can hook it up to any system and play your music right off the pod and through your comp via some media player (nice touch). You can explore the files on it and actually find the tracks with the names and not the FGIW, AINX, VETG type file naming system used by the iPod.

There is choice and it's out there.

That's true. I forgot about this.

True, but these are all unofficially supported.

Keep in mind though that Rockbox support on the new Nano's is at least a few months away as it's new hardware and the firmware is encrypted now with the new one's.

I traded my 1st gen Nano in for a 2nd gen free of charge, and I have to say that somehow to my ears, the 2nd gen sounds a bit better than the old one (using the same headphones). The screen is a lot brighter and clearer and doesn't scratch nearly as easily. Over all I think it's a worthy upgrade over the old one.

    • This is weird. Mythos is more unrestricted compared to Fable. Technically it poses more risk!!
    • This is a great thing, I always have issues with Verizon while inside of certain football stadiums due to the saturation and walls blocking signal so a LOS way to connect would be great. Verizon was supposed to be offering sat data this year but I've not heard a word of it lately. Dude is sending rockets into space in a cheap manner, low waste foot print and has a great product with solar/battery tech. We would be so far behind China right now if not for him and a push to get back into space.
    • illegally? Proof of that? Seems you are posting misinformation or well a pure straight up lie cause there is zero proof of such a thing. But I get it...
