Xtorrent beta released

Xtorrent beta has been released from the same guy that makes NewsFire & Acquisition.

Only just started trying it out & I noticed that a torrent I was trying to download over the last few days with another client that would keep stopping, starting & downloading very slowly is downloading with this at a good rate without keeping stopping & starting.

Searching works quite well.

It searches & returns the results within Xtorrent rather than switching to a browser to search like some have done in the past.

I guess this won't be free once it's finalized, but I wouldn't mind paying for it if it works as well all Acquisition :)

I gave it a try and it may be nice for people who don't know how to use a real Bittorrent client, but I still like to have control over my torrents. I want to know the tracker, how many real seeds, the contents of the torrent, and all those other goodies that real clients provide.

It show's you all the files/content you're downloading in the search pane before/as you download, just like 'real clients'.

I'm digging it atm. Not as simplistic as Transmission but pretty nice anyway. I'm waiting to see how much he is going to charge for this one though.

Yea, I wouldn't pay a lot for it with there being plenty of free ones out there. But some trackers are banning Transmission, so I might end up using this or BitRocket.

It didn't work right when I tried it then. It was merging all the files from various torrents of the same name into one. Either way, does it give you the option to deselect files you don't want?

Something about searching up sites myself still seems better to me than this.

It looks cool, but I wouldn't pay for a bittorrent client, its based on open source code (libtransmission) so you might as well just use transmission. Bitrocket is also shaping up quite nice and is free and open source. bitrocket.org

What it needs is another column in the torrent search view with the name of the tracker so you know which tracker you're actually going to download from.

After using it for an hour I could already see several things wrong with it.

No, as far as I can tell you can't select individual files to download, you can only download the whole thing. That's a feature that needs adding I reckon.

Demonoid, OiNK & a few more I can't remember right now. Apparently Transmission doesn't obey the announce intevals that the trackers set, & the guy behind Transmission doesn't want to fix it for some reason.

because announces of 25+ min are ridiculous..... way too high

i too would be interested in using it as a replacement to azureus, but it would need to incorporate the ability to select or prioritize individual files within a torrent. It's not something i use that often but would save me haveing to use azureus just for that.

I find I can't get any other client other than Azureus to obtain full speed of my connection, so therefore I'm sticking with it. I think it may have something to do with my ISP blocking bittorent traffic, so I need to use Azureus' encryption feature.

Yea, my old ISP was throttling ports. So I switched to one that doesn't do it.

Got to try it out last night. The searching function is excellent, and it maintains pretty good speeds on all torrents. I approve! :p
