How To Converting *.png To *.ico ?

Recommended Posts

Err... no. ?Bitmaps are not the same as icons.

They don't have to be. The ".ico" file type extension changes the type of file. You might want to try it before you assume it doesn't work...;))

I wouldn't recommend this method, however, because mspaint does not support transparency.

I think you'll find you're mistaken. Changing the file extension only changes what Windows Explorerthinks> the file is. Sure, Explorer will accept bitmaps instead of icons in many circumstances, but that doesn't change the fact that icons and bitmaps are different. Try renaming an ".avi" file to ".mpg"; it still works fine, right? So has the AVI changed into an MPEG? Of course not.

It's freeware. Start up the program, go to "File"|"Batch conversion/Rename|

Load all your files into the conversion windows and your set to go! :)

Take care to define your output directory.

Succes!!

I got a small problem when using IrfanView, there is no tranperency when converting to ico, all the icons end up having a grey/black backround :(

I JUST found an amazing freeware app called XnView. It will convert ico --> png perfectly, although not in batch, but it's better than paying for a shareware app after 30 days :D

here's the link:

*edit* oops didnt see it say png to ico, I'm use to seeing people ask the reverse lol, anyways it's still a good prog.
