Neowin.net Xbox Community Leaderboards

vyk, as much as i respect you that plan sounds like a bureaucratic nightmare! one thing we can do is go over everyone on the list and see when the last time they were on Live was, according to Xbox.com. anyone with more than three months of inactivity goes. of course this will take a lot of time and what's to say people don't just log on to Xbox.com once in a blue moon, does that qualify them as active gamers?

i still say leave it be. the competition won't stagnate, not in the short term, and in the longer term people will probably leave anyway...we already had the numbers go down before, then go up again. besides, we should be happy that there are 250 of us.

we can also call for volunteers...people not so keen to stay on the board may be willing to step up.

I wish more members would express an opinion on the matter. I guess most of those on the leaderboard don't really pay much attention to this thread (yeah, I know I don't sometimes!) and those that want to get on aren't really that bothered about it. Meh I say! :p

that's the sad state of the world my friend, not just here. but don't take it too hard, just cause they're not posting doesn't mean they don't care. each and every word here is carefully scrutinized by a cadre of lurkers to rival anything the armies of humanity have ever fielded.

Is it ignorance or apathy? I don?t know and I don?t care. LOL

In other news, I've moved up 4 places since yesterd:D. :D

as a compromise we may consider anyone with more than 3 months of inactivity for dismissal...however, this would also include my friend Shotta i suspect...and i can't allow that. let's go for a voluntary format?

Going for a voluntary format would mean that the people who would leave the leaderboard know that the leaderboard is satured and care enough to leave their place: typically not us who are constantly posting in the thread.

I prefer the 3 months threshold and the policy must be applied regardless of nationality/rankings/friendship. Harsh but fair

You don't get to fly the Hind, Neo by the way ;)

(End of supra-obscure reference to Battlefield Bad company).

How about a required minimum of 1000 points to be on the board?

Not fair for the people who had a 360 just for Christmas.

Easy to get 1000 GS..lol.

no points minimum, it would be very offputting to many. inactivity is the only fair constant, but we don't even know how to determine inactivity. is it logging in or the last achievement attained? the latter would be very time consuming to find out.

and Vyk, not sure i get the Bad Company reference! What does it mean? Are you saying i'm Sweetwater, i shoot my mouth too much? Why you...

then it's pretty meaningless to say three months or whatever. anyone can log in to xbox.com. we're back at square one. i say leave it be.

Anyone can do this, but that's not the same as playing a game, but I see no good solution either way.

We can use the leaderboard capabilities for that. If you go to the leaderboard website and click on the avatar and not the gamertag), you have the last activity of the gamer. For example, for me, Gears of War 2 Last Played on Monday, February 09, 2009 23:02:32 .

Yup, that's me!

This way, we can check the inactivity of members

No, that was the dictator who is left on the small island before the last mission. He says "harsh but fair"

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
