oh yeah he does say that...well anyway, it's up to PabUK to make the determination i suppose, this is his invention here. so what will it be?

i can live with 3 month inactivity, but then again this would have to be an ongoing process, weekly or so. it may take some work!

Are people suggesting we manually check the last time all 250 users logged on every time we want to add new people to the list? That would be extremely time-consuming. I'm all for removing inactive users (say after 6 months of inactivity) from time to time, but I don't think it would be workable as a regular way of allowing new members in.

My idea requires a lot less effort. New member posts their gamertag, their gamerscore is checked against that of position #240 on the list and if it's higher they take the place of the person who is #250. The same rules would allow previous members back onto the list; if they later improve their score to above that of position #240, they also post here and then take the place of #250. The reason for using #240 would be to prevent micro-managing members, whereby people are constantly in and out of the list. Even so, it would not be much of a challenge for someone to keep or earn a position, as the gamerscores at the lower end of the list are likely to remain quite low.

No, that would not be practical at all on a day to day basis but that could be used for a one-of-a-time crop of the current inactive players out of the leaderboard.

If you need to, I can help. I can scan the leaderboard for the inactive players and give you the list of players who have not played for a time limit of your choice.

In the end, you're the head-hocho of the leaderboard: you will be the guy who will remove the members so that's your choice.

once monthly? tri-monthly?

heck, i say leave the whole thing alone, but i do acknowledge that then we're running the risk of stagnation. so my vote is inactivity for over three months, checked every couple of months.

we can't do it based on gamerscore i think. it's too harsh. what if someone with 100K wants to join? so we kick out number 250. why not kick out number 249 or number 23? 100K will be more than all of them combined!

Because it's a top 250 leaderboard. The 250 Neowin members with the highest gamerscore. So someone with a greater gamerscore than the bottom of the list is obviously going to take that place, as the lowest person no longer has a top 250 score. You are treating it like it's not a leaderboard, but simply a collection of members who play Xbox 360. The Gamers Index better suits that purpose.

As a compromise, I say we should first remove the inactive members. Anyone who hasn't been active for the past 6 months goes. After that, if there's still members who want in, it changes to the system outlined in my previous post. This continues for 3-6 months whereby we repeat the inactivity cull. Best of both worlds; we remain a top 250 leaderboard but consist only of active Neowin gamers.

So, who wants to go through the entire list looking for inactive members? :p

<silence in reply to that last question>

OK, agree with your compromise. sounds fair enough. never thought of it as a truly competitive ranking, you're right about that. i mean, what if 100 new people want to join within a month, and all have over 50K? so, let's go with your suggestion. now to find a patsy!

It is done. I've removed the four longest inactive members based on the list Vykranth sent me, which is those that haven't played for over 6 months and haven't signed in to Xbox.com. Those removed may rejoin like anyone else if they become active again.

Thanks to the removals, I've been able to add the following people to the list:

Timan25

danisflying527

Omnicoder

LonelyCooler

So welcome to those four. If I missed anyone, please post again in this thread of PM me with your gamertag so I can add you.

For future signups I'll go back to Vykranth's lists and check who is still inactive. Thanks again to Vykranth for putting in the effort to find the inactive members, it was a big help. :) (Y)

Glad you guys worked it all out as well as have a list to faster check who is inactive more.

I was going to add when I got a chance (now) that either the person that wants to get added to the leaderboard could scan themselves if they really would like to be added. Then provide those or one inactive.

Also (not sure if MGC does this at all) but for the leaderboards and accounts no longer a gamertag get removed and not just inactivity. I like the inactivity rule myself who have not played in over 6 months, heck even 3 months might be suitable. Especially if like that person is inactive a lot but that info would need to be written down to even be remembered, checked every so often and probably just a waste of time.

thanks a lot Vyk and Pab - looks like we have a working solution. You did good, i really appreciate the effort and time spent. hope there's an achievement in there for you...50G min.

and welcome to the new recruits, let's hope they do better than the cannon fodder they're replacing...

Thanks for the thanks, I appreciate that.

For a little behind the scene DVD bonus, it took me roughly two hours to go through the leaderboard and look for inactive players. What surprised me is that the leaderboard is far more lively one would think, I expected that there were many more inactive players. The great majority of the players plays once every week, sometimes every day.

Now back to hunting scary thingies in F.E.A.R. 2

If anyone here owns GTA IV (or not) and is looking to purchase the new GTA IV DLC The Lost and Damned for 1600 MS points. I can say you should not be disappointed with it at all (heads up on space as it is 1.78GB). Minus aside the very easy 250 achievement points it adds, I very much enjoyed it and think others will too. It took me around 5 hours? Without checking at stats.

The final mission (won't spoil) I thought was very awesome (almost as awesome but not better than the Bank Job in Niko's story), there were a few other missions I enjoyed too and some will be familiar if you played through the original GTA IV storyline.

This puts me at 87,000 GS. Making my way up to 100,000 GS as soon as possible. :)

hope you're feeling better jonny. what is glandular fever btw?

and can't wait to play the new GTAIV stuff...it's been days since i gamed and not sure when the next time will be.

I'm in the process of finishing GTA IV so I can buy the DLC. Can't believe I stopped playing this game, it's so good.

    • Here is how to watch Apple's WWDC 2026 conference where iOS 27 is expected by Taras Buria It is Monday, June 8, 2026, which means today is the day Apple kicks off its annual Worldwide Developer Conference, WWDC 2026. As usual, today's keynote will be full of consumer and developer-focused announcements, including new versions of Apple's operating systems, developer tools, and more. Apple streams its developer conferences, allowing everyone to tune in and watch the announcements live. Today is no exception, so here is how you can watch it. Apple WWDC 2026 will be available to watch on Apple's official website here. Also, you can stream it on YouTube and the Apple TV app on your Apple device. The stream kicks off at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT / 6 PM GMT+1. Apple's annual developer conference usually focuses on new software experiences, so do not expect major hardware announcements. What is expected is the "27" series of Apple's operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and macOS. Apple is unlikely to introduce major UI changes, but you can expect subtle tweaks to the Liquid Glass design language, particularly on Mac. One of the biggest changes Apple plans to announce today is a reworked, AI-powered Siri. The assistant will be available as a standalone app with a chatbot-like experience and Google's AI models under the hood. If you want to learn more about what is expected today at WWDC 2026, check out our dedicated article here. However, if you prefer a spoiler-free stream, tune in at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT on Apple's official website, its YouTube channel, or the Apple TV app.
    • For we consumer readers, it would be helpful if you clearly stated in the headline if the article is about consumer or enterprise. Then readers will know if the article applies to them or not. 2 cents.
    • At the moment I have my main PC and a test PC on my work desk. The test PC is also not inverted so I am not looking at the glass panel side, which is irritating.
    • I'm glad you posted this clarification of the cause of so-called Windows 11 update problems that too often appear in the article headlines.. In the future, it would be better to readers if you took your time, did the analysis before posting an article about Windows problems, which end up being a waste of time. Just saying.
    • Nah. They'll milk the current generation in terms of design - controllers, consoles, but no meaningful hardware improvements. This is one reason why people aren't buying Xbox hardware - it's stagnant.
