Ipod Nano with broken screen

Recommended Posts

Ok, so today at the train station, I wanna listen to some music so I take out my ipod only to see that the LCD screen is totally broken. The screen 'glass' itself is intact but inside it's like someone spilled with oil or so. Worst thing is that I have absolutely no idea what caused it. :(

I still have to check my options to repair it, but as it's outside warranty I doubt Apple will do something about it.

So instead of paying a lot of money getting the screen repaired (if they even accept to do that), I was thinking if I couldn't use it 'blindly' or do anything else with it. The music playback still works and so does all the rest. I was wondering if you people have any ideas of what I could do with it? It would be nice if I could mod it so that I get a sound playing when, for example, I enter a particular playlist or so. That way I could navigate through my playlists just by sounds instead of visuals.

Sure I could also just use the shuffle function from now on, but as I like to specifically choose a song to listen to, that's not really an interesting option for me.

Any other ideas?

lol add sounds to playlists???? what you gonna do rewrite the ipod firmware!!!

on a serious note, apple will fix it for you at a cost of something around ?80, in which case they will tell you not to bother as its not worth paying. so like **** happens, by another ipod!

Lol you just turned your Nano into an Ipod Shuffle...

Couldn't help but laugh myself :p

Well, I found two companies that repair broken ipod screens, so I'll check them out. I'll make a call to Apple too, just in case. In the meantime I guess I'll do what you said: memorize the menu and navigate that way.

Nope, but you never know something like it exists. Besides, they can run (a very very lightweight) linux on it, so it might not be entirely impossible. :shiftyninja:

Anyway, I sort of re-discovered the 'click' sounds when scrolling through the menu. That'll help to get me an idea of what playlist is selected :)

Thx for the replies.
