Need for Speed Carbon demo!

I can't even get it installed.

Downloaded it from 3 different servers through IE7. No download managers, all the same problems.

First time it said I didn't have d3dx9_30.dll, now I no longer get that.

The installer seemed odd.

The end.

This is with directx_oct2006_redist.exe installed.

Faulting application nfsc_demo.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module nfsc_demo.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x002b6da1.

Even currently playing and have had NFS:MW on my system for the past 10 months.

Read up? He played a Demo and didn't like it ... I doubt his gonna like it when reading about it.

it is because he didn't read up on it that he doesn't know about like you can change the imperial to metric systems in the hud. The demo is still a demo, full of bugs and what not. heh, this is like me bashing EA when NHL07 was released. NHL06 and NHL07 for PC are exactly the same. for one I'd say the NFS franchise has improved waay better than the NHL series.

Well, I've been looking forward to NFS: Carbon cause the cars that are gonna be included in the game, the Koenigsegg CCX, Shelby GT500, Murci?lago LP640 and the Jag XK.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the NFS series but I absolutely hated this demo. It felt like it's based off 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' Even the short intro movie reminded me of a few scenes from the film. It just didn't seem to get yer heart pounding while you race. During the circuit race, I was using the Camaro SS and it felt heavy and sluggish while turning which was was different from the rest of the NFS series, and that was a nice change. However, I used the Gallardo for the drifting event and it was absolutely rubbish. The slightest push of the directional button would send the car sideways like another forum member said. And using the Evo 9 for those, the car was pretty much manageable. I've got this feeling that EA's forcing us to use certain cars for certain events.

Anyways, I wouldn't be so quick to judge the final product as a piece of garbage till I tried it out. I sure hope the final product wouldn't be as bad as this. Maybe the amount of exotics would make up for it. Just, maybe.

Just run it in compatibility mode (for example Win2000) and it will work.

Last time that happened to me (Most Wanted), running the installer with windows 2000 compatibility mode fixed things.

Edit: LOL replied at the same time

well i saw one screenshot and here is what i have to say :D

there was the test drive series. then there as colin mcrae rally's. that's like generation two for me. and then there were all these, like, "hi-tec" autosport simulators, they were like generation 2.5. and after them most wanted series. and those three, including this one, are all generation three. well it looks like fifa 2002 compared to 2005 :D

i just had to say that. no offence to anyone. and don't correct me about those generations :D they're very probably wrong, but that's how i see it :)

Doesn't work in Vista. At all.

So I noticed. So it looks like another crap game for the NFS series. That's a shame, I was really looking forward to this one. After reading all the comments on this page I don't even care to bother trying to get it to work. I tried admin, compaitibility modes, etc, nothing. Oh well, EA continues to produce crappy games.

Just run it in compatibility mode (for example Win2000) and it will work.

I thought I was sorted there, but this is totally messed up!

clipboard03dj8.jpg

I have no choice to cancel as it keeps popping up.

Is it just me or does EA have awesome programmers...!?

I think I'm feeling the same way now. I don't think I fancy downloading it a 4th time to find the same problem.

I want to play this but I can see my PC just failing miserably when trying to load it up...I love racing games especially Need for Speed...since the old days when you get chased by police car :p

haha the nme says it all :D how can a decent product can be named carbon

Doesn't work in Vista. At all.

it should work under vista just by doing this:

To do this Right Click on the Need for Speed Carbon Demo shortcut on your desktop and

select PROPERTIES. In the PROPERTIES window select the COMPATIBILITY tab. Under PRIVILEGE

LEVEL select RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR, and then click OK.

what is carbon anyway?

:EDIT:

Carbon occurs in all organic life and is the basis of organic chemistry. This nonmetal also has the interesting chemical property of being able to bond with itself and a wide variety of other elements, forming nearly ten million known compounds. When united with oxygen it forms carbon dioxide, which is vital to plant growth. When united with hydrogen, it forms various compounds called hydrocarbons which are essential to industry in the form of fossil fuels. When combined with both oxygen and hydrogen it can form many groups of compounds including fatty acids, which are essential to life, and esters, which give flavor to many fruits. The isotope carbon-14 is commonly used in radioactive dating.

from wikipedia

dude it's only a demo... the full version is going to be 90% better then this... alot better graphics, gameplay etc etc etc....

Why buy the game if the demo sucked?

Should I take the chance with my 70 bucks, cannot return it if it sucks? No thanks.

Or should I warez it, see if it's any good, then buy it if it is? Hmm? Tell me, since you can read the future so well.

dude it's only a demo... the full version is going to be 90% better then this... alot better graphics, gameplay etc etc etc....

erm, mate, the game is out next week i think. how do you expect ea will improve it in 5 days? well they do work 20hour shifts there but still :D

it is because he didn't read up on it that he doesn't know about like you can change the imperial to metric systems in the hud. Is that implying you can or you can't in the demo?

I mean, when I tried the MW demo last year, the menu system almost resembled that of the full game, minus the extra races, cars, and career mode.

If it was full of bugs... come on! The console demos were out weeks ago, leaving PC users ****ed off at EA's apparent lack of care for the PC platform, and now they release a demo with horrible performance problems? If they get everything fixed by the full version, then fine. I'll just pretend that this demo never existed.

Even with the HUD and performance problems aside, I'm doubtful it'll have the same appeal like it had for me when I first tried the MW demo. That time last year, it instantly got my attention. And it was fun. This one... nope. I'm serious: out of the demos I tried for NFS:HP2, NFSU, NFSU2, NFS:MW, and now this, this was the first one that was a real disappointment.

Seriously, EA should've just made a sequel to Most Wanted. They've polished that game well.

I cant tell from demo if its boring, but its nothing as fun as MW was with police mode, where you could play countless hours. here you just finish and be done with it :(

(Y) That's what made MW have a good replay value even nearly a year after its release.

im probably the only one that loved it, probably cause im car mad and it looked pritty good on my pc, 1 thing i hated - drifting, what the hell is that way to sensitive!, just hope the full is good, and it kinda does remind me of underground...

Thank you for simply repeating what the Readme said. As has already been said, it still doesn't work no matter what compatibility mode you set it to.

Also, if you were just going to copy and paste from the readme, why take off the very next line in the "WINDOWS VISTA" section that reads:

"Running the game without administrative credentials may cause online related problems."

So running the game single player should work without running as an admin anyway. But no, it doesn't work either way.

It uses the same engine as Most Wanted, and yet manages to look like absolute crap in game. Someone went crazy with the HUD and made it look horrible, made all the cars look uber chrome, and have terminal cases of the jaggies. And even with those jaggies, the motion blur is over done to the point where everything but the car looks like some image of a steet someone used a bunch of "Motion Blur" and "Gaussian blur" Filters on.

Hell, even the menus are screwed up.

The sense of speed is gone. The drifting (What was supposed to be the selling point), controls like a bad flash RC car game. There is an annoying "Crew mate" who gives you annoying as hell "Encouragement" every 30 goddamn seconds during races.

The "Piece shaper" or whatever they call it, feature is a disaster, it's supposed to lket you design your own car parts, but all it does is let you change the size of air intakes and such.

Basically, it is the antithesis of fun.

After reading the comments here, I have a few more questions. I don't have the time to play the demo, and as I said before, I pre-ordered the game so I'll just go straight to the full game.

I read the forums over at EA after Most Wanted came out, and saw what people were complaining about with it. Most of the complaints were centered around the PC version was a port of a console version and performance sucked big time on the PC. All kinds of crashes and choppiness (which I experienced myself). Also, Many complaints were made about handling of the cars, and also the "rubber-band" effect.

So what about these issues? Does the game still stutter like the MW did? Do the AI cars catch up to you so quickly that the game feels unfair again?

I thought that EA would MAYBE get this one right. But it seems that EA still haven't listened to their customers. They might have changed the handling of the cars, but I'm afraid they still missed some of the points that I mentioned earlier.

As for the motion blur, is it closer to what is was like with Underground 1? I thought the motion blur was too heavy in that game. I felt that they hit it just right with MW.

edit: What about drag racing? I haven't seen any info about it. Have they finally just killed it off completely because they were dumb enough to put traffic in a drag race in the other games?

Arckon- After installation, game crashed two times before loading properly.

I experienced minimal stutters.

I forget what the blur from NFSU, but it is excessive, to put it mildly.

Total time to Download demo: One hour, Thirty minutes

Time spent installing: 5 minutes

Time spent playing: 15 minutes

Time spent uninstalling: One minute

Guess which minute was the most fun?

I've not read the comments because tbh I cba, but when I started to play the game it was fast as hell as in when you play an emulator and you don't have vsync on the game will just be crazy, but as soon as I turned vsync on the game was pretty normal that might be what a few of you are complaining about :)

If that doesn't work try setting everything to high the games weird :s

    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

    • Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta changelog: Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.82 Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.4.2550 Updated MPC Audio Renderer A few crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements.
