Need for Speed Carbon demo!

it should work under vista just by doing this:

To do this Right Click on the Need for Speed Carbon Demo shortcut on your desktop and

select PROPERTIES. In the PROPERTIES window select the COMPATIBILITY tab. Under PRIVILEGE

LEVEL select RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR, and then click OK.

this is proof that this game is gonna suck.

why should i have to run this with admin privileges? this is poor coding on ea's part, and isn't it in like the guidelines that the programmer shouldn't assume that the user will be able to do this?

argh!! and to think all i was worried about was them making the interface game controller friendly (which they seem to have done) but god did they have to botch the rest of it?

I read the forums over at EA after Most Wanted came out, and saw what people were complaining about with it. Most of the complaints were centered around the PC version was a port of a console version and performance sucked big time on the PC. All kinds of crashes and choppiness (which I experienced myself). Also, Many complaints were made about handling of the cars, and also the "rubber-band" effect.

So what about these issues? Does the game still stutter like the MW did? Do the AI cars catch up to you so quickly that the game feels unfair again?

NFS:MW was definitely a lot more intensive than the two Underground games, but overall on this PC, the stuttering isn't too bad. It's quite minimal, and only noticeable when driving long distances. (On my older PC, yes it stuttered somewhat frequently because of the graphic detail.)

Now for NFS:C, it's a HELL of a lot worse than Most Wanted. If MW ran like crap on your PC, be prepared for the worst in Carbon if EA doesn't do something about this before it hits the stores.

As for the motion blur, is it closer to what is was like with Underground 1? I thought the motion blur was too heavy in that game. I felt that they hit it just right with MW.

Yes, the blur returned to the blurry messiness like it was in Underground 1. Underground 2's blur and MW's blur were just right.

edit: What about drag racing? I haven't seen any info about it. Have they finally just killed it off completely because they were dumb enough to put traffic in a drag race in the other games?

Not sure. There's no drag in the demo, but there might and probably will be drag races in the full game.

Drag races in MW were probably one of the worst parts of that game: too much damn traffic blocking your way. There's a 1 in 5 chance you'd win a race on the first try.

i guess i am one of the few that thought the demo was decent. the sensitivity in the drift race was outrageous at first but i soon got the hang of it. same with the circut and mountain chase races. the game ran perfectly fine on my pc at max settings. no stuttering at all. i do have to complain about the menues. they could have worked on that a little more.

I cant get it to run on vista, even running in compatibility mode. Says game stops responding after the EA logo

For everyone bitching about it not working right in Vista.............................IT'S NOT EVEN FINAL YET!!!!

Edit: Pardon my irritability....

 . I'm still downloading on my part so I can found out for myself what NFS: Carbon is all about.

I've finished the demo, the drifting is interesting, harder but easier to score points once you get the gist of it, the canyon race is weird, I won it with a muscle car even though it has lots of turns and a tuner is the best for canyon?

Autosculpt feature is good :)

Graphics, not as impressive as Most Wanted, and I agree with other people how it's too much blur, like you can't even admire the city because of all the blur let alone know where you're going without looking at the minimap.

The steering is weird on these cars, I can't go around the corners etc like I can in Most Wanted and the handbrake is really sensitive so I can't drift around it. The HUB is weird, I liked NFSU and NFS MW hubs better. Otherwise darker atmosphere, less traffic? and yeah not really worth the 650 MB download IMO.

Otherwise overall I'd give this a 6 - 7 / 10, it don't live up to it's name.

It's also EA. Experience tells us if bugs exist they don't get fixed.

Unless you're talking about Vista itself. In which case who cares if it isn't final, it's coming out in 3 months or so and the procedures to get a game running in it are pretty known - it should work, there's no excuse not to have it working.

Vista peeps. Keep in mind your running a still BETA OS. Even if NFS:C was programmed with Vista in mind theres no gurantee it will work.

Theres hundreds of reasons it wont. If your running a non-final version of an OS these kind of things are to be expected thats why its still BETA

I've just finished playing NFS:Carbon demo and I was quite impressed with a few things, although there were a few negatives. Considering it is a demo, I'm suprised by how quick people were criticising the game, considering that NFS:MW when the demo came out was also buggy and keep crashing to my desktop.

The first thing, let's hear the negatives of the game. I believe a lot of people were correct in saying that the graphics somehow took a step back from NFS:MW. The car geometry details were very much improved but somehow the world details lack... detail in that it was too blurry to see the whole world while racing. It also made frequent trips to my desktop but since this is an EA game, what can I say? The menu, especially the display menu was a bit too messy, similar to NFS:U2 so that was a bit stupid on EA's part.

Now the positives, and there are quite a lot despite what people here are saying. The best thing in this game was the drifting, seriously. Sure, a lot of people were saying that they were spinning cartwheels but then they got the whole thing wrong. Drifting is so fun once you get the hang of it, believe me  . I've tried all three classes and I found that each car handled differently, like EA said it would.

Muscle is more on straightline speed and accelaration while Exotic focused more on top speed. Tuner on the other hand had better handling. Each of the three cars have their own way of drifting so you have to adjust yourself accordingly. It's not hard to drift using a Camaro SS, just different. The drifting in NFS:Carbon is also much forgiving in that if you hit the wall, you won't lose points for it. However, you will lose extra points if you hit the wall so it's best that you stay close but not to close to the kerb :D .

Canyon races was another that was a fun addition EA put in. Racing with Kenji, I could see that the different car classes are even more prominent here. I found that the Camaro SS speed and accelaration was better but handling in corners woeful. The Lamborghini Gallardo however enjoyed better cornering but still suffered handling issues. The Mitsubishi Evolution IX was in a way better suited for canyon races but in a way was also not, as I couldn't pass Kenji while driving it whereas I could pass him using the other two car classes.

Autosculpt is another feature that I think would be a big hit. I already found myself finding those nice parts where I could make the rims look just nice, though I did fine that they over compensated on the widening of the tires, if you get my meaning. Try raising the sliders on Number 8 and see what I mean  . I'm sure we could come up with parts that would make our ride even more original  .

I am a bit disappointed that there were no milestones in it. The NFS:MW demo had a milestone challenge so it's a bit sad it's not in there though it could be in the full game. Other than that, this Demo is quite solid, despite the notable flaws. I give it an 8/10.

i hate the blur on this game, its crap, quite frankly, too much of it and disabling it game me a good 10-15fps back.. :|

Installed the game. Chose the Lambo for the race. Crashed after loading the map. Reloaded it again. Tryed to drift with the Lambo. Succeeded. Raced with the Lambo/Evo. Succeeded. The Lambo's steering sucks so much. It really is hard to control. The Evo drifts really nice IMO (Y) (my favorite car too). The graphics I couldn't get a good idea of because I am using a X300SE but it ran pretty smoothly with ALOT of chrome lmao. Man I really need to upgrade my graphics card especially for this game alone.

    • I am not a fan of haptic feedback touchpads. I've owned a Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon) with one and a Lenovo Slim (Intel), and I hated both to the point where I purchased different laptops. It's not that they don't work most of the time; it's that they don't work 100% of the time, and there is no advantage from a user's perspective over a good mechanical trackpad like what's on a ThinkPad X1 or a Yoga 9i. I do not believe that I'll buy another haptic feedback touchpad laptop again in the near future.
    • Works fine here too. About this build, I don't like to download any kind of Windows, from any site except Microsoft. The mod might work, but I don't know what it's inside. Can contain malware, backdoors... Long time ago I've used something like this but reversed - it was 98se with the look and some functionality  of XP. Or, later XP with Vista look. But I made it myself. Not downloaded from obscure sites.
    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
