PS3 Controller Interface and Game Load Times

Recommended Posts

No one else elaborated on their opinions of it looking rubbish or disappointing

I'll elaborate. The xbox one is actually easier to navigate and things are more logical. Flame me all you want for having an opinion; I don't give a ****, but from a usability/user interface point of view (not looks), the Xbox one is far more logical and intuitive. Not to sound arrogant, but I say this having studied usability, ergonomics and all that crap. The xbox interface is simply much more intuitive, and I think that's undeniable. Fair-dos if you think the PS3's is nicer looking, but that's a really silly argument to have to be honest because it's all down to opinion. Usability is a more valid argument.

What annoys me is you have to scroll down about 10 menu options to get to the things you want, i prefer 360, its all in your face.

IF your used to a PSP then its probs not too bad. But I do think theres a little too much going on option wise and its gonna confuse a lot of non-tech-head users. Much akin to my feelings on Vista.

Loading times... not too bad but should be better. Dont seem to much quicker than a PS2 really, but probs due to the slow HDD

But hey F-K sony as they F-K-D liksang. Not a good move, that coupled with ignoring there EU user base etc has turned me from a definite Sony fan for the past 5yrs into totally boycotting them when and where poss

I hate the guy who is talking, he is so full of ****.

Menus are just fine, I prefer the minimalistic interface (which is easy to get an overview of) of the PS3 instead of the bulky and bloated **** on the 360 (which has way too many submenus that you need to go through to access something).

Yeah, loading times were disappointing.

To be honest, in this day and age there should be NO loading times in any games.

Nothing ****es me off more than waiting for a damn game to load.

Why don't more companies do what Bungie did in Halo 1....load the level as you go (although it did take an eternity to get into level at the start).

Yeah, loading times were disappointing.

More pearls of wisdom from someone whos probably never used a 360 for more than 10 minutes.

The Dashboard is far from perfect but you have access to everything pretty much in 1-2 button presses. I can navigate my 360 faster than my PSP, and the PS3 looks like it has too many menus.

Of course it has logn loading loading times.

Let's compare 360 and PS3

Xbox 360:

1: load compressed stuff into memory from fast drive.

PS3:

1: read uncompressed data(so it looks bigger) from slow diskdrive onto HDD

2: compress data

3: put compressed data into memory.

Why don't more companies do what Bungie did in Halo 1....load the level as you go (although it did take an eternity to get into level at the start).

Because of the pi** poor transfer rate of the Blu-Ray drive, theres no way it could keep up with streaming 25gb let alone 50gb from the drive.

Yeah but its annoying, they keep papping on about how amazing the Blu-Ray is and how much of a good decision it was to put it into the machine so it would benefit the games, when in reality its quite the opposite and they are using the ps3 as a trojan horse to force Blu-Ray onto the market.

For those of you that don't know, it's the same menu system as the PSP has. Nothing wrong with it, but it is more of an offline oriented interface than the Xbox Live menu tabs on the 360. I think they both will do the job just fine, but I am curious to see how Sony implements online features.

And, the load times weren't that bad. There is no such thing as a "super quick" load time on the 360, unless you're talking about XBL arcade titles

So, hate all you want on Sony, your comments simply expose you as whining fanboys (or EU folks mad because they just lost their hookup to illegally get a console before they're supposed to). Either way, it's kind of stupid.

Be a fan of *all* gaming.

Get a N64 . . . .

You're always going to have load times if you are using discs, Only way to stop that is to use flash memory.

well on the 360 if your in game and u hit that 360 button to bring up the menu it slows the game rite down and also takes a few seconds for that menu to come up, and did i mention that it also freezes the 360, my brother has had to restart the 360 countless number of times just because of that stupid menu has frozen the 360. so maybe the minimalistic menu is a far better idea, I'd prefer the minimalistic look over a bloated menu :x

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
