Sheppard
It slows down because the game is using all the threads, you try and run windows when your game is using all the resources and it will possibly slow down and crash. Ive never had my 360 crash or lockup and ive had it since launch. ahhell
You're always going to have load times if you are using discs, Only way to stop that is to use flash memory. Then that's what they should do....have a massive cache so it can be streaming data instead. MadFerIt
Hooboy at everyone saying "Blue-Ray has an incredibly slow transfer rate compared to the 360". That's bull. If you actually bothered to research it they are pretty damn close. The problem however is as another person mentioned, with BlueRay developers are being lazy and not compressing enough. Thus it takes longer to load the files. That's definitely going to cause issues. WelshBluebird
apart from the lack of wires and the new button in the middle, has the controller changed AT ALL? they've altered the L2 and R2 buttons to be a bit more like triggers, and made the analogue sticks more sensitive. But tbh, do you blame them for not changing the design? When the showed a new design, which looked very comfortable to hold, people moaned. So they go back to the tried and trusted design, and people still moan. If you actually bothered to research it they are pretty damn close. Its not bull at all, 2x Blu-Ray maximum read rate is 9MB/s, 12x DVD-ROM read rate is 16.2MB/s. Blu-Ray max transfer rate is about same speed as 8x DVD-ROM, maybe a bit less. The difference between 9mb and 16mb a second is quite a lot considering it has to read 25gb at 9mb/s, DVD9 are only 9gb max so 16mb/s at 9gb is a hell of a lot faster than 9mb/s at 25gb. I dread to think how long a 50gb game would take to load. MS and Nintendo have it right in switching the dpad and analog stick positions. I tried playing FSX with my ps2 pad and it hurt after a while. Ive never had my 360 crash or lockup and ive had it since launch. Many, many folks have reported hangs on their 360's. I know 5-6 other folks where I work that have 360's, and all of us have experienced hangs at one time or another. My console loves to lock up after playing GRAW for a hour or two. It either hangs outright, or complains about not being able to read the disc (and the disc has zero scratches). It happens. It's a major problem, but a different one, nonetheless. I do agree with that, playing fifa 07 online with on my PS2 can get a little annoying after a while because of the controller, but I just wished sony had ignored the reaction from the boomerang controller, as at least it looked like a huge improvement over the dualshock. majortom1981
I think they were worried more about getting the consoles manufactured and games for it to worry aboout the menu. I honestly think the 360s and wiis menus are much better then the ps3's. firen
What's so difficult about a menu that requires users to navigate up, down, left, right? Seems pretty straight forward to me. As far as load time goes, that's just that one game. It doesn't represent loading times for all PS3 games. MightyJordan
That was disgusting. Horrible load times, incredibly dumb user interface, and the controller? lol. Sony ripped off both Nintendo and Microsoft. It's funny. I totally agree. Sony has ripped off their rivals, but I'm suprised that Sony hasn't been sued yet. The xbox one is actually easier to navigate and things are more logical. The xbox interface is simply much more intuitive, and I think that's undeniable. Again, I agree. Sony just ran out of ideas to steal, so they used the PSP interface. QuarterSwede
Sony just ran out of ideas to steal, so they used the PSP interface. Maybe they're actually trying to standardize the UI for their gaming devices. What's wrong with that? Oh and I still can't quite figure out what's wrong with the system UI in the first place? I've used the PSP and it looks good and works quite well. Danrarbc
The guy in the video is wrong. On the 360 just holding the button works to connect the first controller as far as I can see (which is what he did there, connected the first controller). dnast
Horrible load times. I hope it's just that game. It took about 1:40 just to get to the game menu. I wonder how long it takes to load up the actual basketball court and get to the gameplay. I could live with the interface, though. It's not that bad. I just hope the font size automatically adjusts for SDTV users. maeby
that load time was horrendous, one of the worst ive ever seen! all it was doing was loading the ****in game menu, cant wait to see how long it takes when you want to start a game! menu is boring too, i would have liked to see something different, and more visually appealing. ah well. im not impressed. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 9, 2006 Subscriber² Share Posted November 9, 2006 Bad loading time on that game. I'll reserve judgement unlike most people on this forum to see other games in action. The menu is great, nice and simple - Important its simple for me since you know I plan on spending most time actually playing a game rather than navigating a menu  That controller button is excellent! Like the fact the controller connects to the ps3 quickly and its only one button you need to push. The idea of the middle button being able to turn off/on the ps3 is great as well - Very handy! The Teej
I love the PS3 menu, I honestly don't see the problem with it personally. Ahhell -- To be honest, Streaming has been used in loads of Nintendo games, even in the N64 days. Instead of loading the whole level, the just loaded a bit of the level, and replaced far away objects with textures, making it seem like it's all there when it really isn't. Nevertheless, it's still an awesome thing to implement in games. Oh, and practically no loading times ARE possible, even with optical discs. Remember that Tony Hawks game for XBOX and GCN? or Wind Waker? Or Metroid Prime? Those all had very small to no loading times. Apparently, the Wii also improves loading times, to the point where some games don't actually have loading times...
