windows xp won't install on new system!

Recommended Posts

I just finished building a new computer, and tried to install xp pro on it. It goes through the beginning of the setup process fine, but when it goes and reboots to finish the rest, i get a blue screen that says the following:

STOP: 00000221 Unknown Hard Error

\SYSTEMROOT\SYSTEM32\NTDLL.DLL

anyone have any idea what causes this? I have the RC1 version of vista from microsoft, and when I try to install the 32bit version, i get the same problem, but if I install the 64 bit version, it installs fine....i thought 64 Bit Amd chips work on 32bit windows? Do i need to get the 64 bit version of XP?

System specs:

AMD x2 5000+ 64 bit proc.

MSI K9A premium board

OCZ 2GB memory

WD Raptor 36GB drive (sata)

Seagate 7200.10 320GB drives x2 (sata)

Thermaltake 700w PS

logitech dinovio keyboard and mouse

Samsung 213T 21.3" LCD

EVGA 7980 GX2 (or whatever the dual board card is, can't remember off the top of my head)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey, don't mean to highjack the thread but it will likely help the original poster too -

I have a new pre-built computer with a SATA harddrive and am planning on re-installing Windows XP, can someone talk me through what extra steps I have to take? as I understand it I need sata drivers or something.

They never came with my computer - could I locate them on the net and save them onto my XP install disc or something?
