0 eilegz
The ICQ protocol is technically superior, but the client is bollocks crappy, and that's what killed it. Slow performance, huge memory footprint, lack of skinning with a default ugly non-native look. 98a was the best ICQ client back then, every version after that simply added bloat. It didn't help that ICQ insisted on using difficult-to-remember strings of digits for its usernames, instead of email addresses/actual usernames as like every other competiting protocol. ICQ's multi-party chat was also remarkably inferior to MSN back when I still used it - inviting others took forever and people would just drop from the chat for no rhyme or reason. u should see latest version of wlm, no IM its perfect and unbloated it need a aptach or mess patch to have it clean and useful look, the same thing we can say about ICQ, icq changed a lot the lite version its more user friendly and now ICQ its less bloated and less setup size compared to msn, also memory its not an issue anymore (for most neowinians at least). I feel that icq multichat was slow to connect but it works very well and fast with more people, also ICQ got a best system to search for friends not only by number, also contacts cards in ICQ its better. Well what can i say sometimes something better doesnt mean that more people will use it, and icq its not perfect but well now that everyone moved to msn i have nothing to do... And thanks to AOL ICQ its death instead of pushing icq and aim into one integrated platform too bad that aol didnt know a word called convergence. Oh BTW ICQ works well in vista compared to WLM that crash a lot  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/514756-best-im-client/page/4/#findComment-588091365 Share on other sites

0 DigitalE
Oooooh, Astra looks nice. It might be the reason I return to Trillian. Yes, Astra looks amazing. I might actually purchase it this time around  I'm just happy that it finally will support handwriting (tablet PC here :p) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/514756-best-im-client/page/4/#findComment-588101029 Share on other sites

0 tes1234
I use WLM and Yahoo.. Coz i use advance features Like chat logs, buzz, videochat (sometims), voice chat so i stick to the originals one. and yahoo is more memory hog than WLM.. 0 Shasoosh
i love miranda for its low memory usage, but you have to be really up to date with all the plugins to actually keep miranda from working.i dont have all the time to customize it the way i want to. guess illtry gaim or adium..... i rather use all in one than WLM... but WLM b/c it's just widely used... (except for americans, they use aim).. its funny how every county uses something else.. in israel kids are using icq, 20+ prefer wlm Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/514756-best-im-client/page/4/#findComment-588375876 Share on other sites

0 JAbad28
I currently use GAIM, mainly because of it's simplicity and very easy to use interface. Nothing really complicated about it, also it's "very" fast. I know MIRANDA is probably the fastest multi-messenger out there but, I never really got a hook on it. I used many messengers and I like GAIM the best. I am also in the Trillian ASTRA beta and I really like the new interface but, it seems too much for me. Maybe when it's complete i'll try it out. Vote for GAIM here. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/514756-best-im-client/page/4/#findComment-588377620 Share on other sites
