Best Html Editor?

Question

Hi Everybody.

I am looking for an editor that I can use to Edit HTML codes. Something similar to Cute HTML that comes with Cute FTP with colors and everything. It will be great if it supports PHP and JavaScript editing as well.

Please suggest your favorite Editor and tell us why.

Thanks.

All you need is Notepad - textpad is nicer. But hey VI or pico works too. I do 99.9% of all editing in textpad - before I moved to a host that does not have shell access, it use to be VI or pico.

macromedia homesite 5.0. Its like notepad, but it colorcodes tags and supports every language. Its the best. ;)

Yep..I bought Dreamweaver MX and could've saved ALOT of money by just getting Homesite.

I've never used any of the other features

I generally use Metapad (Another of the thousands of Notepad replacements) and Homesite. I used to use Dreamweaver and Ultradev but Homesite is easier for me to code/view/correct/view/save. I use Metapad if I want to go digging into code or if i'm working with php/MySQL issues ("error on line 55" = ctrl+G, 55. Bam, I'm at the line editing the code.)

first i'll qaulify my postition:

developer at Electric Pulp

These are the editors that i prefer... since "best is a somewhat relative term... it depends on what you do, and how"

MAC: BBEdit 6.5 or 7.0 its really robust, plus all the FTP clients integrate with it making updates a snap! (barebones.com)

PC: EditPlus, for its simplicity, style, and the extent to which you are allowed to customize it! (editplus.com)

Just the opinion one man.

    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.

    • There really isn't anything magical about the low latency profile, other OS's do this as well. All they're doing is using your CPUs boost clock options in a more smarter way.
    • So we shouldn't have the option because of people using their laptops on battery? OK? LOL
