Xbox 360 Selling Better Than The Original Xbox

According to sales data from The NPD Group, U.S. sales of the Xbox 360 video game system during its first 13 months in stores were 6 percent higher than comparable sales of the original Xbox, which launched in November 2001.

Since it was released on November 2005, gamers bought 3.79 million units of the Xbox 360. In comparison, the Xbox sold 3.57 million units in its first 13 months in stores.

Microsoft has announced it expects to surpass its previously forecast global shipments of 10 million by the end of 2006, because the company already anticipates to sell more than 10 million Xbox 360s into retail.

A Power Point presentation used by Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell on a Nasdaq investor conference also showed that the Xbox 360 is outpacing the original Xbox.

1.9 million units have to be sold in 22 days :o thats pretty steep but i think it can be done

christmas! have faith.. the 360's have been SHIPPED, and are in stores right now, or on route to stores. the shopping for consoles will be starting now till december 24th. also, on december 26th (day after christmas, aka boxing day in canada) they sell like HOTCAKES!

Good for Microsoft. I am really unsure of how the Xbox will fare this time around...

I think it'll fare better than the first. I was a little worried at first, but the 360 is selling faster than the first one and is already making a profit on hardware.

MicrosoftTV? Is that just the new name for WebTV?

Microsoft TV includes products like the "TV Foundation" software - which is used by cable companies like Comcast (in certain areas) and digital set-top boxes like those from Motorola. We have them in Seattle - they tend to be easily recognizeable since the program guide says "Microsoft Enhanced" in the corner. Some perks of it include way faster video-on-demand programming than most competitors (I used to have Time Warner in NY and their on-demand stuff was dog slow), and better video quality.

What that slide was mentioning, though, is the Microsoft TV "IPTV edition" - which is entirely internet-based television being offered through certain telephone companies - usually along with fiber channel access. Many companies are in "commercial trials" with the service right now - I think Verizon and SBC are among them but not completely sure what the status of those offerings is.

    • Less powerful than a PS5 at twice the price! I wonder if they use that for marketing? Totally DoA.

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
