What a nuisance. Even in Vista RTM, the search indexer is still a pain in the ass.

I don't WANT everything to be indexed, as I tend to keep my documents sorted quite well, but the bloody search indexer marches on, taking tons of CPU time. Even when I've deselected almost everything. (It won't allow me me deselect the "Users" folders...)

I wish I could search in the old way: by file name and properties.

you can unselect Users, i know i did it on mine, for the control panel

After a bit more digging... it appears you can.

Heh, they sure made it easy enough.

(This is all about getting users entrenched in the battle for desktop searching, with Google being the competitor.)
