Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

Recommended Posts

Got my copy this morning as well. I've spent most of the afternoon backing stuff up on my macbook so I could do a clean install of Leopard. All is installed now. I don't want to set up mail yet though, I'm waiting for IMAP to be enabled on my gmail account :D

Why does your menu bar not look transparent?

For all those asking about the "big secret," I believe it has to do with their lineup and not OS X. There's going to be a press conference at 6:00 pm, when Leopard officially launches, which begs the question - are you all Apple devs? How have you gotten Leopard so early? Stores around here have not even received copies yet.

Anyway, rumor has it that Apple will be release a 13" Macbook Pro this evening to coincide with Leopard.

You can set transparency

where? i can't find it.....

do you know if it's 6:00 EST or PST

It's 6:00PM EST. 1 hour from now.

And the rumors aren't for a 13" macbook pro, it's for a brand new macbook. No more white and black, now its goin to be silver. (alumanum (I can't spell).

Leopard installing now, my damn dvd drive on my macbook is broken so I had to make an .iso of the disk on my vaio (which im typing from now), and then I had to make a partition and install it from there. Going pretty quick but thats prolly becuase its just transfering files around.

I'm excited.

Bad news for those hoping Finder would be fixed.

Still crashes when you deal with network related stuff. Beach balled for about 1min then restarted. Why apple can't you fix this.

Gizmodo claims that the Finder used to crash all the time in Tiger, but it has been fixed in Leopard. Hmm...

looked through the last few pages, but i cant find independent resolution anywhere... was it scrapped for this release???

i just installed leopard (family pack) on my macbook, and will put it on my imac tomorrow, but because the folks use the imac, and their failing eyesight, independent resolution would be good...

Yes, independent resolution was scratched.

Hell, indie res. is gone, full ZFS didn't make it, fast Windows reboot was axed. These were, pretty much, the only selling points for me, so I'll not be getting Leopard for awhile. Don't get me wrong, Leopard has a lot of great features, but it's all stuff I'll never use. Upon my eventual installation, I will set the menu bar to opaque, remove glass from the dock, set Finder to a more classic look (sans Cover Flow), terminate Time Machine, replace iChat, and mod the hell out of Mail before even using anything new.

ok I did an upgrade and here is some feedback...... ( iMac C2D 2.4Ghz 2gb )

install went smooth as you would expect, first time booting into leopard thought i had the BBOD but no I was just being impatient. All apps seem to be working bar the theme type apps like Shapshifter, Candy e.t.c. bar but no big deal there as the new interface is clean and uniform accross the OS.

APPS no longer needed....

Quicksilver - Spotlight is lightning fast and launches all apps, docs without fault ( i know some of you use advanced features but i don;'t )

AppZapper - as above because spotlight is fast and thorough.

Candybar

Shapeshifter - for now not needed but be interesting to see if any new themes can take advantage of the Core Animation e.t.c. :)

ADOBE ACROBAT - Preview is just so much better for PDFs and combine this with QuickLook there just is no need for Acrobat.

PROBLEMS

Spamsieve not currently working with Mail

Growl not currently working with Mail

When connecting to network shares on my windows box the mount does not appear on the desktop.

Time Machine not working with a network shared drive - i understand this may not be possible but it would have been nice.

Overall it is very very quick and actually works as quick as when you see Apple perform the demos at the keynotes for a change :)

why o why are there no new games :(

Independent resolution is coming, I'm pretty sure Apple instructed 3rd parties to start writing under that guideline, we have ZFS Read right now (or was it write), so chances are Apple will do something with it, but no one knows right now. Yeah, disappointed with fast windows reboot, but what can I say? -shugg-

Is there a special event or what? I very seriously doubt they do if Gizmodo and Engadget haven't heard anything about it

Just did a clean install. Amazed at how well it runs, it seems to be improving my battery life greatly.

The only issue I had was with Lotus Notes 7.0.2, it doesn't seem to supported in Leopard. Hopefully 8.0 client for Mac will released soon.

I'm posting this from the Apple Store at Sherway Gardens . . . place is buzzing. Lots of excitement. The atmosphere's so good, I might just be inspired enough to pick up a new Nano, lol. In any case, I picked up a copy of Leopard, which is why I came.

How are the upgrades vs. clean installs, by the way?

And how did you manage to do that?

Only way I know of kinda doing that would be putting a black bar on your wallpaper.

gona have to back track on that comment forgot that it was pulled from RTM was use to some of the custom stuff that we had in some dev builds

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates. Diagram faster with keyboard shortcuts. draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 changelog: Uses electron 42.4.1 Updates to draw.io core 30.2.4.
