Pierce28
The Zune firmware update 1.2 is out! While this upgrade doesn't contain any cool new features, it enhances performance a lot! When I usually go through my pictures, I used to get the little loading circle thingy once every few pictures. Now, I can hold down my left button and scroll through all my pictures super fast with no load thing! I went through all my pictures several times with no load. Also, I have not noticed the random freeze when going through menus since the update. Needless to say, while this may not include new features, it is a must have! If your Zune doesn't automatically update when you sync it, follow these directions taken from www.Zuneboards.com. Are you having troubles installing the firmware? Try manually updating. 1. Plug your Zune in. 2. In your Zune Software, on the left you should see your ZuneTag. 3. Right click your name, and click "Check for Zune Device Updates." 4. The rest is pretty easy. Cheers, and enjoy your faster Zune! Now lets hope 1.3 has a clock! This just makes me love my Zune more and more! UPDATE: A day after the firmware update, they have upgraded the PC software, now making it compatible with Windows Vista! Now all you lucky Vista RTMers can enjoy the Zune too! P!P
What's new in it? I was on the wall with Zune vs. iPod and ended up getting an iPod. I'm sorry Zune will come out with some cool crap now. A very good upgrade if you ask me. And here is the kicker for me: the Zune has only been out for what? 4-5 weeks? And yet it already has a very nice update like this. Woot for Microsoft! xcopmanx
no, but be patient. It takes about 2 minutes once it hits that point, Legend. Watch the Zune screen and you can see it doing things. Watch the Zune screen and you can see it doing things. Oh :/ It wasn't doing much, just said "Connected", so I cancelled it, unplugged it and reset it and did it again. Wrong thing to do? It's doing it again, doesn't seem to be doing much, shall I just leave it? PL_ Veteran Posted December 19, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2006 Well, 2 hours of a loop, so I'm going to give up, and wait for 1.3 instead. I can live without some performance updates until then ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/522732-zune-firmware-12-is-out/#findComment-588150365 Share on other sites

someguy03
Your happy because they had to update it already? After such a short time Most companies would take much longer, so I have to be happy. Apple destroyed iTunes 7 and took way too long to fix it. metallithrax
My point is that you buy a new item, and within weeks you get an update for it. I don't buy a TV and get an update within a few weeks. Simon Veteran Posted December 19, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2006 Is your TV updateable? But this leaves more to be said for the "rushed out the door" theory, if this is such a big performance fix after a few weeks, why was it released with performance issues? I don't buy a TV and get an update within a few weeks. The Zune was perfectly fine without this update. It was still very playable, and the once in a while 2 sec lag was not an issue at all, unless your a speed freak. I am happy because this shows that the Zune team exist and cares about its product by releasing an update to make it even better. Once again, it was fine before the update, but this makes it even better. So while it may be no "game changing" update, it was certainly a nice "Hey, we're here and we care about you" update. Now if this is a pathetic attempt to flame the Zune, you have failed. This post is not about a flaw in a Zune, but praising it. Take your failed attempts somewhere else. +mram Subscriber² Posted December 19, 2006 Subscriber² Share Posted December 19, 2006 (edited) Good god. Some people... You'd be upset if it had a performance update a year after release. "They're slow coders." You'd be upset if it had a fast update a few weeks after release. "It wasn't done yet." Welcome to reality bub. itunes is at version 7 and they still have sucky stuff. Software, hardware, and firmware are in a constant state of advancement - it's called technology. If you don't believe in the general principles, go back to cups and string. The only thing you should have a right to complain about would be if something were broken. Guess what, nothing is. Complain at another camp, please. edit: typo Edited December 19, 2006 by mram Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/522732-zune-firmware-12-is-out/#findComment-588150924 Share on other sites
Mathachew Veteran Posted December 19, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2006 No matter what, you will always, always, always have something that can be updated on a product after it is released. It is the nature of software and technology. When dealing with deadlines, sacrifices have to be made to get the product out in time. All major software is like this. I don't agree with this philosophy but am force to abide by it from time to time. So for MS to fix the issues so soon is a good thing imho. You're looking at the glass as half empty while we're seeing it as half full. You'll have one side saying, "Wohoo! Yippee! YAY! AWESOME!" While another saying, "What a piece of crap! An update already? It JUST came out!" Would you have preferred they waited six months? Didn't think so :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/522732-zune-firmware-12-is-out/#findComment-588150930 Share on other sites

And if it was updated a few months later, people would complain too. Just when IS a good time to issue an update? And have you considered that before a big product rollout, lots of them have to be manufactured, which takes time? Just what are they supposed to do, sit around and wait or get to work on the NEXT firmware upgrade while the first batch are being made? This firmware has probably been in development for months now. It would be somewhat hypocritical to berate any other technology for known advancements through minor updates in code at any point in time. Noone can attest the product was broken in the first place. It doesn't matter how soon or how far out the update was provided.
