Kompressor
here is something you can do if you ever lose your windows 95/98 password(if you have a username and u log in every time) :D ;) 1) Get yourself into the windows folder by typing "cd windows" (without the "") 2) Next type "dir *.pwl". This will display the login password files. 3) After you found out the one thats yours (or ne1 elses you want to get into) type del username.pwl 4) Reboot the computer 5) When you have to login, put in the username you deleted, and enter any password you like. 6) The computer will say something like "No password. Would you like to use this one? Confirm? 7) Put your password in, and voila! :ninja: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/52323-ever-forgot-your-win9598-password/ Share on other sites

cyoung1616
A little more sneaky way is to hit excape at login , enter windows, search *.pwl and delete. reboot , do your snooping around then go to recycle and restore when your done. when the computer reboots the password is back in place and no one the wiser. neuro-OSX
I believe he was referring to multi-user login in Win9x.. If you have your own profile in 9x then you can't just hit ESC or Cancel when you get this prompt.. Now if have Client for M$ Networks installed when you boot your computer you may get a User login screen which is actually for if your box is on a network, if it isn't then can hit cancel and your on your way... So I'll assume that suggestion was referring to those who have there on User Profile on a 9x box... Now if you run XP,, here is a trick if you forget your User password.... Here's how to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard to create your very own password recovery disk. Click Start menu, Control Panel, and User Accounts. Click your user account name. Under Related Tasks on the left, click "Prevent forgotten password" to launch the wizard. Now that you've launched the wizard, let it walk you through creating the recovery disk. Make sure the disk you use is formatted and in the drive. After it's finished creating the disk, label it and stash it away for an emergency. If you happen to forget your password, all you need to do is click your user icon at the logon screen. Even though you don't have your password, go ahead and click the green arrow just like you would to finish logging on to your computer. This will launch a little yellow dialog box directing you to use your password recovery disk. Don't lose the disk, however, or you're out of luck. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/52323-ever-forgot-your-win9598-password/#findComment-525192 Share on other sites
